Masters of the Universe seems to be heading in the right direction, with recent reports of a test screening suggesting that the movie is everything fans of the 80s cartoon series and toy line could hope for. The same screening has revealed the expected runtime of the movie, which seems to be exactly where you would expect it to come in by today’s averages.
Early reactions to Amazon MGM Studios’ reboot of Masters of the Universe have been unanimously positive, with words like “amazing” being thrown around the internet in the last week. Along with some descriptions of the movie’s look and characters, they have also revealed that the movie runs for “around two hours.” This puts it right in a sweet spot, where it is not too short, but also not long enough for moviegoers to need multiple toilet breaks to get through it.
The runtime also would suggest the film will not overstay its welcome and could leave fans wanting more; always a good thing when attempting to build a franchise. While there is nothing confirmed yet, and edits as a result of the screening could alter this, a two-hour movie looks likely to be what we will be getting next summer.
‘Masters of the Universe’ Will Release a Trailer Soon
The test screenings reportedly included footage that had not completed work on all the CGI elements, but it seemed to give enough of a view of the movie to make everyone happy. That being said, there is now enough of the movie complete for everyone to expect a trailer to emerge soon.
This December, an Avengers: Doomsday trailer is expected to be attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash. There is also a strong belief that the teaser previously shown at Comic Con events earlier this year will be released at the same time. This would align with the usual hype-building around summer movies, and the fact that Masters of the Universe appears to be well into post-production makes it clear that trailer footage is available, and it is only a matter of time until we see it.
Over the last few months, fans have been given some small teases of the movie but are still waiting to get their first glimpse of actual footage. Amazon MGM Studios released an official still of Nicholas Galitzine in his He-Man form and several actors shared hints at what their make-up and prosthetics looked like as they wrapped filming. One character that has been absent from all marketing so far is the villainous Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. Following Leto’s recent run of badly-received box office disappointments, some believed the actor’s absence could be done on purpose, but a hugely positive reaction to his take on the character from the test screening may have put that idea to bed.
Masters of the Universe features an all-star cast alongside Galitzine and Leto, including Alison Brie, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Sam C. Wilson, Kojo Attah, Haftor Bjornsson, Morena Baccarin, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, and Jon Xue Zhang make up the main cast. The movie is set to be released in cinemas on June 5, 2026.
