The Today Show weatherman Al Roker is making it up to the girl who went viral for her brutally honest response to him during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. During the segment last week, 7-year-old Elliot was gifted a golden ticket to see The Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, but instead of jumping for joy, she told the anchor that she had already seen their show yesterday. The clip has since garnered thousands of views on social media all to Roker’s embarrassment, but the weatherman decided to invite the girl back for another chance.
Roker gives girl a different surprise gift
The Today Show invited Elliot, along with her mother, Casey Austin, back to the studio on Monday, December 1, for a special segment.
Austin explained that the family was still basking in their fifteen minutes of fame after Elliot’s reaction went viral, noting that their friends and the girl’s teachers had all seen the video. She said that since Elliot was born on Thanksgiving, she had always to take her daughter to the parade in New York City. A family friend put them in touch with some people who were connected to the parade, which is how they serendipitously appeared on The Today Show segment.
In hindsight, Roker admitted that he had made a mistake during the viral interview, telling the mother, “Never ask a question you don’t know the answer to.”
As a special surprise, Roker told the girl that they had other gifts to give her. The first was a pair of tickets to the musical Six on Broadway, which she had not seen before, though she didn’t look that thrilled about it. Oh no.
Fortunately, the show revealed that she would also receive a shopping spree at an American Girl store, something that finally made Elliot grin and react with a wide “Yeah!” to the delight of the crowd.
Roker then asked the mother how they were going to top this experience. The mother responded, “I don’t know, be back next year?”
