Hail Boris, Sofia Gurman and the other heroes of Bondi Beach

Boris and Sofia Gurman died in each other’s arms, weeks before their 35th anniversary — and they died as heroes.

The couple, ages 69 and 61, were celebrating the first night of Hanukkah on Bondi Beach when Sajid and Naveed Akram opened fire — and they responded by charging one of the gunmen.

We can only hope to be so brave, should the moment call for it.

Boris actually wrested the rifle away as Sofia ran to help . . .  but then the killer pulled out another long-gun and shot them both down, the first of 15 innocents to die that day.

“While nothing can lessen the pain of losing Boris and Sofia, we feel an overwhelming sense of pride in their bravery and selflessness,” their family announced afterward: “This encapsulates who Boris and Sofia were — people who instinctively and selflessly tried to help others.”

They join Reuven Morrison, 62, who threw a brick at one terrorist before he was also shot dead, and  shopkeeper Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, who’s recovering in the hospital from his wounds after his own intervention, on the roll of Bondi Hanukkah heroes.

Morrison’s daughter, Sheina Gutnick, declared: “If there is one way for him to go on this Earth, it would be fighting a terrorist.”

And: “He went down fighting, protecting the people he loved most.”

Al-Ahmed’s cousin Mustafa, told Australia’s 7News: “He’s a hero, 100 percent.”

Drone footage shows Boris and Sofia pair embracing on the ground in their final moments.

We expect they’re together still, and for eternity.
