Fourth Remake Of Groundbreaking 2011 Movie Scores Huge Box Office Record 6 Years After Bryan Cranston’s $125M Sleeper Hit

The fourth remake of The Intouchables continues the franchise’s strong track record at the box office. The 2011 French dramedy, which was inspired by a true story, follows the unlikely friendship that forms between a wealthy man with quadriplegia (François Cluzet) and a poor young man with a criminal past (Lupin star Omar Sy) who he hires to be his caretaker.

The Intouchables was both a critical and commercial hit. In addition to grossing $426.6 million worldwide against its reported $10.8 million budget, it was nominated for eight César Award, winning one for Sy for Best Actor. It was also nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

Per Variety, the fourth international remake of The Intouchables, which is the Turkish Yan Yana (starring Haluk Bilginer and Feyyaz Yiğit), has scored a major box office record. The movie debuted on November 14 in the territory and has since sold more than 2 million tickets and earned roughly $12.4 million at the time of writing.

Turkey has a population of roughly 86 million.

While that total is relatively small on the global scale, Yan Yana is the highest-grossing movie of 2025 in Turkey.

It has handily outgrossed some of the biggest hits of the year, including Warner Bros. Pictures’ A Minecraft Movie (which is 2025’s fourth highest-grossing movie worldwide and grossed $5.2 million in Turkey) and Disney’s Zootopia 2 (which is the fastest PG-rated movie to hit $1 billion globally and earned $4.1 million in Turkey).

The movie is already set to debut in seven European markets, including Germany, Sweden, and the franchise’s home territory, France, which could increase its overall box office substantially after more than doubling the gross of Turkey’s previous 2025 record-holder. However, it is unlikely to outperform the two highest-grossing installments in the franchise.

Although The Intouchables has also been remade in India (as Oopiri) and Argentina (as Inseparables), the most notable remake thus far has been 2019’s The Upside, an American version of the story starring Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart. The Upside became one of the earliest hits of that year, grossing $125.9 million against its reported budget of $37.5 million.

Yan Yana‘s relatively small global release probably won’t give it the opportunity to perform at the level of The Intouchables or The Upside. However, this record proves that the franchise still has the ability to dazzle at the box office even though more than a decade has passed since the release of the original installment.
