The amount of amazing RPGs to release over the past year is a bit overwhelming, with the meteoric success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Obsidian’s Avowed, the highly slept-on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and plenty others. It’s easy to lose track of what’s coming next in the genre as well considering numerous anticipated 2026 releases.
However, there’s one RPG available that you may want to check out sooner rather than later if you’re a Bloodborne or Fallout fan, with similar aesthetics, gameplay, and themes. The Path Into The Abyss is an immersive sci-fi action RPG with dynamic worlds and persistent NPCs that are “constantly simulated” in game, and the demo is available for free on Steam now.
The Path Into The Abyss Is A Grim New Survival Shooter
The Path Into The Abyss is a dark sci-fi action shooter with serious Fallout vibes and a bit of Bloodborne grimness mixed in. It’s an “open-world survival shooter set in Buenos Aires” with exciting and promising role-playing systems, such as the dynamic NPCs that you can befriend or antagonize and will “remember” your actions when you return later.
Players experience Buenos Aires “after the arrival of beings alien to our planet,” which has been ravaged by climate change and “deluge.” The city has been evacuated and “only those willing to fight, resist, or fulfill their personal desires” dare enter the region. Post-apocalyptic themes set in a dark and mysterious location result in a truly original experience that RPG fans are sure to enjoy.
Gameplay is based on an open-world map that is “divided into territories, each controlled by different factions.” Factions attempt to advance and capture other territories, and you can either choose a side or “follow your own path and let the world change on its own.”
There’s A Free Pre-Alpha Demo Available Now
If you’re interested in what The Path Into The Abyss from MXR Productions is all about, there is a pre-alpha demo available to download on Steam for free, and you can wishlist the full release version of the game as well. The demo includes the first story chapter, titled “Carhué’s Journey,” while you can also enjoy the game’s freeplay mode, get a sense of the “Abyss Life AI System” (the game’s NPC AI system), and more.
Fans of Bloodborne and Fallout will definitely want to try the pre-alpha demo for The Path Into The Abyss to get a sense of its scale and atmosphere. There’s a haunting and compelling ambiance that captures a similar eeriness from FromSoftware’s cult favorite, and it marries perfectly with the post-apocalyptic Fallout-style story and themes.
