If you have visited at least five of these locations then you’re officially well-travelled | Travel News | Travel

There is always plenty of debate about what it really means to be well-travelled. Some people think it depends on how many long-haul trips you have taken, while others say it’s more about the variety of cultures and places you’ve experienced. But there are estimates suggesting that the average person only visits around six countries in their entire lifetime.

This will, of course, depend on many factors including where you live, how much money you have, and how willing you are to travel. Many people also point out that there are different kinds of travelling. Someone might visit 15 countries by staying in resorts but learn very little about the culture, while another person might visit only five but spend time getting to know the locals and their way of life.

But if we take that average of six, and look at the 15 most visited countries in the world in 2025, according to the World Population Review, then anyone who has been to at least five of these destinations can fairly consider themselves well-travelled.
