Carly Admits Her Feelings For Freddie

iCarly season 3 now has an official trailer, and things are heating up between Carly and Freddie. The series, which is a Paramount+ exclusive, is a sequel to the Nickelodeon sitcom of the same name, which ran for 6 seasons between 2007 and 2012. With the exception of Jennette McCurdy as the feisty Sam Puckett, the series reunites the original cast members, including Miranda Cosgrove as web series star Carly Shay, Jerry Trainor as her older brother and former guardian Spencer, and Nathan Kress as her neighbor and tech whiz Freddie Benson.

Today, Entertainment Tonight debuted the first official trailer for iCarly season 3, which premieres on June 1.

The trailer follows Carly finally realizing how deep her feelings for Freddie go after a wacky misunderstanding where it seems like he proposed to her. This causes a fissure in his relationship with his girlfriend Pearl (Mia Serafino), who begins to see Carly as a threat and nearly beheads her during an axe-throwing hangout. However, the trailer ends with her confession of love and a potential kiss.

Freddie and Carly’s Relationship Has Been a Long Time Coming

While they haven’t always been the sole focus of the show, the feelings between Carly and Freddie have been developing since the very first episode of the original series. In the early going of iCarly, it was quite clear that Freddie’s feelings for Carly were unreciprocated. They accounted for his tenacity in remaining a part of the web show, but they weren’t actually acted upon until much later.

The pair briefly began dating in season 3 after he saved her life, but she broke up with him after realizing her emotions were mixed up because of that situation. Although he surprised her in season 5 by asking if it was too late for her to love him, at which point he had already dated Sam for a short time in season 4. The iCarly series finale hinted that they got together following a momentous kiss, but the reboot series showed that they had drifted apart in the meantime and started building up their romantic momentum from scratch.

Considering all this history, iCarly has played the romance card with Carly and Freddie many times before. However, this trailer makes their romance seem much more conclusive and serious than it has ever been before, now that they are no longer impulsive teenagers. While there are certain to be many more obstacles to their love than just Pearl this season, it seems like they might actually manage to work it out in the meantime.
