The Goonies Cast Reunites 40 Years Later To Celebrate Ke Huy Quan’s Career Milestone

40 years after The Goonies was released, the cast reunites to celebrate Ke Huy Quan. The actor who played Data in The Goonies has had a career resurgence after starring in and winning an Academy Award for Everything Everywhere All at Once. He has since starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Loki season 2 and in the Disney+ series American Born Chinese. Quan’s next movie is as a former hitman in the action comedy Love Hurts, which is among February 2025’s biggest theatrical releases.

According to TooFab, The Goonies cast members Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, and Kerri Green, along with screenwriter Christopher Columbus, attended Quan’s hand-and-footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Various celebrities have added their legacy to the establishment since it was first opened in 1927. As shared via MaximoTV, Brolin delivered a speech to honor the occasion, which included remarks from Steven Spielberg, who was unable to attend the ceremony. Check out Brolin’s speech below:

What This Means For The Goonies

Their Cast’s Bond Is Particularly Strong

40 years later, The Goonies cast is still a tightly-knit group that makes an effort to support each other. Quan noted that Green, who played Andy, flew in from New York to attend the ceremony. Between The Goonies‘ many great quotes and how it remains a beloved 1980s movie, it is heartwarming to know that part of the film’s enduring legacy is the genuine bonds that exist among the cast members. This makes reunions such as this one all the more meaningful.

Loki star Ke Huy Quan is enjoying a career resurgence following his Oscar win with a starring role in the MCU, but he’s also in some great movies.

After news broke of The Goonies 2 being in development, with Columbus involved, the hand-and-footprint ceremony may only be a precursor to a more extensive reunion in the coming years. The sequel is still in the very early stages of development, but it would be a great opportunity for Quan and his co-stars to reprise their roles. Quan shared at the ceremony that “I would be so happy to revisit that character and, of course, go on another Goonies adventure with my fellow Goonies” and with Goonies 2 in the works, this may become a reality.

Our Take On The Goonies’ Reunion

It Is Wonderful, And Not The Only Goonies Reunion This Week

The reunion feels particularly special because of the group dynamics among The Goonies‘ cast of characters. Those dynamics continue to exist with so many of the cast members coming out to celebrate Quan. While Goonies 2 is still a ways off, a more imminent reunion can be seen in Love Hurts, which not only features Quan, but also Sean Astin, who played Mikey in the 1985 movie. Hopefully, a larger reunion will come to fruition in the developing sequel as The Goonies continue to live on.
