A new image from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple offers fans a shocking first look at Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Ian Kelson.
The ScreenRant exclusive photo shows Fiennes seemingly in the middle of a ritual. The actor appears to be in very rough shape. Already an elderly man who survived the Rage Virus in a post-apocalyptic Britain, Kelson’s deeply sunken-in eyes and famished appearance give viewers a horrifying look at what’s to come in the horror film. Check out the image below:
Directed by Nia DaCosta, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple amplifies the world first created by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. However, rather than focusing solely on the infected, the film changes the franchise’s main threat. The upcoming film seemingly suggests that human cruelty and desperation may be even more horrifying than the virus itself.
Kelson’s story takes a disturbing turn as he forms a surprising new alliance. His newfound partnership could potentially reshape the already doomed society in a terrifying way. The newly revealed image seemingly symbolizes this potential transformation. Showing Fiennes in the middle of an intense moment further hints at his character’s transformation.
Meanwhile, Spike (Alfie Williams) finds himself in his own worst nightmare after crossing paths with the enigmatic Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell). What starts out as just a chance meeting quickly spirals out of control, trapping the former in a situation that could possibly be worse than death.
Set in a world where the infected are no longer the biggest threat, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple focuses on the idea that civilization can be just as evil, if not more. The sequel will be a breath of fresh air for the films. Redirecting the focus on something other than the Rage Virus will hopefully be a welcome change for the hit horror franchise.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will feature Cillian Murphy (Jim), Erin Kellyman (Jimmy Ink), and Chi Lewis-Parry (Samson) alongside Fiennes, O’Connell, and Williams. The movie was filmed immediately after 2025’s 28 Years Later and will be the fourth chapter in the long-running 28 Days Later series.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will premiere in theaters on January 16, 2026.
