Depending on where you live, winters can be brutal. It can be nice to cozy up with a Steam game and pass the time, but every so often, there’s a game that turns right around and reminds you of how cold things can really get.
Over on Steam, one final sleeper hit awoke, and took the storefront by storm. It’s currently sitting at hundreds of “overwhelmingly positive” reviews, and ended the year on a great note.
My Winter Car Is One Last 2025 Surprise
End 2025 With An Odball Game
If you’re into unique games, give My Winter Car a shot. Currently in early access, it launched on Steam on December 29 from Amistech Games. As a sequel to My Summer Car, you’ll own, build, fix, tune up, and maintain a car. Well, kind of.
It seems like a normal car tune-up simulator right? Well, no. Here’s the rest of the premise, presented without edits: “Even with all the fun and interesting things, there is still terrible coldness and darkness of Finnish winter that makes the life dangerous, depressing and tiring. It is hard to keep a track even of the time of the day. World around seems to go forward, but player is spiraling even deeper in the pit he was establishing already in the original game.”
The game has a “permanent death feature” as well, just so you have an idea of what to expect. It’s the kind of sleeper hit Steam game that pops up all the time. If you’re into it, there’s also a bundle available where you can essentially get My Summer Car for $5.
The New Sim Is A Hit
It Came Out Of Nowhere
This particular Steam user review says everything you need to know about the game: “Woke up freezing. Got dressed. Got out of the house. Scraped the ice off the car. Turned on the car and waited for it to warm up. Drove around the Finnish landscape not knowing where to go because it was all white. Lose control because of the snow, crash and die in a tree (forgot to put my seatbelt) 10/10 game.”
Arguably, the wildest feature is “realistic law enforcement that gets after you if you do stupid things,” which should appeal to everyone who is waiting for the next Grand Theft Auto to eventually hit. As Steam wraps up another bullseye year, we’re all wondering what 2026 has in store for us. No doubt there will be plenty of indies lighting up the charts, as AAA development wrestles with rising costs and a flooded market.
