With Christmas over, the past week for many have likely included lots of festive celebrations. Additional restaurant visits, indulgent cuisine and increased alcohol consumption are all hallmarks of the holiday period, though they can leave many feeling rather worse for wear.
During an appearance on Lorraine, Dr Hilary Jones recognised this as a widespread concern during the festive season, noting that patients frequently consult their GP reporting that their ‘bowel habit has changed’ – hardly shocking considering our dramatically altered eating patterns over Christmas.
Dr Hilary observed that rich festive fare can readily trigger bloating and constipation, particularly as the holiday weeks progress. Whilst he emphasised that prevention remains the ideal approach, he did spotlight a supplement solution for those already experiencing the consequences of seasonal excess.
He referenced a product called Debloat and Detox by Dr Vegan. The supplement is priced at £18.99 for a single pouch as a one-off purchase, equating to approximately 65p daily when consumed over a month from the Dr Vegan website.
Speaking to Lorraine om December 15, the television medic explained: “There’s something called Dr Vegan’s Debloat and Detox, which contains things like artichoke leaf extract and milk thistle, which are traditionally meant to be good for the gall bladder, botanicals, amino acids. ” Debloat and Detox is formulated to aid digestion following meals, support liver function and assist the body in processing toxins, according to the brand, reports the Mirror.
The formula blends botanical ingredients and amino acids, featuring Milk Thistle (2,500mg), Silymarin, Fennel, Dandelion, Burdock and L-Glutamine. Components like artichoke are recognised for their antioxidant qualities and are traditionally employed to aid digestion, intestinal function and the liver’s natural detoxification processes, the website states.
The capsules are straightforward to consume, with users recommended to take two capsules daily, either simultaneously or separately, alongside or following main meals, or prior to alcohol consumption. The brand suggests adhering to the recommended dosage for optimal results.
Nevertheless, Dr Vegan isn’t the sole brand providing a bloating-busting product. LookFantastic also stocks The Nue Co. Debloat and Prebiotic Bundle for £98, which provides ‘two dietary supplements’ containing digestive enzymes, prebiotics and probiotics, the website notes.
Boots similarly offers the Artah, Digest + Debloat Tincture 100ml for £32 on its platform. These are designed to supplement one’s diet, the website explains, and are described as ideal for consumption before or after meals.
Returning to Dr Vegan, hundreds of customers have documented their experiences with the Debloat and Detox supplement. One individual, Carolyn, commented: “Definitely help with digestion and lessen feelings of bloating, after my evening meal… Take them religiously!”
Another user, Nicki, shared her experience: “I have suffered with IBS symptoms for a year now and in one month my bloating and constipation has almost gone – I’ve had one or two instances this month compared to every single day. It is quite pricey but it compares well to other similar products and the ingredients are natural and high quality. I can’t imagine I’ll ever stop taking them.”
However, not all users found the product beneficial, as another customer noted: “I used this for 30 days and found no difference. On a positive, despite the capsules being large, they are easy to swallow.”
Overall, the majority of users expressed satisfaction, as Melanie stated: “Less bloating and stomach pain after eating, and no uncomfortable, hard full tummy that made it impossible to do sit ups. I will be repeating the order when it comes to renewal and have been really impressed.”
