Donald Trump is the most petty president in US history by a mile. He never forgets any slight, even if most of them are imagined, and he is bent on revenge against people whom he views as political enemies.

We’ve seen this behavior in action frequently in the United States, as Trump will continue to mock and criticize people like John McCain, whose unforgivable sin in Trump’s eyes was voting against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, even after their deaths.

Trump tried to engage in revenge prosecutions against those who had the nerve to either discuss potential wrongdoing in his first administration, like James Comey, or successfully prosecute him, like Letitia James, who is the Attorney General of the state of New York.

The courts have caused much of Trump’s agenda to hit a wall or at least face obstacles in the United States, so he has turned his quest for unlimited power and control overseas.

It was widely expected that Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado would be the next president if Maduro were ever ousted from power. She was viewed as the person who could usher in a new era of democracy in her home country.

Machado will not get that chance because, according to new reporting, she made the mistake of earning Trump’s ire by accepting the Nobel Peace Prize that he covets.

Trump’s obsession with Greenland has been a source of global mockery. It has not helped the strength-obsessed president that the tiny population of Greenland has consistently humiliated the president and his vice president through displays of protest and rejection of Trump’s plan to take over their home.

The people of Greenland have been taking the threat from the Trump administration seriously, because after he invaded Venezuela, Trump has shown that he has zero respect for the sovereignty and right to self-determination of others.

The Trump administration wants control of Greenland’s rare earth minerals, which is the real reason why Trump wants to take it over. The excuses about national defense are a silly pretense. The US has the biggest military in the world. It does not need Greenland to be secure.

Trump wants control of Venezuela for the oil, even though the oil is of poor quality, and it will take decades to build the infrastructure needed to make Venezuelan oil profitable.

The administration wants Greenland for the rare earth minerals. Trump is on a campaign of colonization and exploitation, and the people of Greenland are not interested.

In a statement, the Premier of Greenland, Jens Frederik Nielsen responded to Miller:

Let me state this calmly and clearly from the outset: there is neither reason for panic nor for concern.

To say that most of Congress is very unhappy with Trump invading another country and removing its leader without congressional authorization would be an understatement.

The White House has not been able to list any legal authority that it possessed to justify its actions in Venezuela.

Instead, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has claimed that the administration was engaged in a law enforcement action that did not require the approval of Congress.

Rubio said on ABC’s This Week:

It wasn’t necessary because this was not an invasion. We didn’t occupy a county. This was an arrest operation. This was a law enforcement operation. He was arrested on the ground in Venezuela by FBI agents, red as right, and removed form the country.

Have you — I encourage everyone — I know it’s Sunday, people are busy, but I — you know, the indictments have now been unsealed. People should read this indictment. They should read this indictment. They should read what this man did for 15 — the last 15 years of his life against the United States. Him and his wife. He was arrested.

This justification was baseless gibberish because the military invaded another country.

The good news is that there is something that can be done.

Trump is, of course, doing this because of Big Oil. Wrote him mega checks during the campaign in the form of dark money contributions.

When his campaign was struggling, Big Oil gave Trump a list of a hundred to 200 already written pieces of legislation in executive orders. They listed their demands in exchange for the money. Trump said, I will do whatever you want. What they wanted was control of Venezuela’s oil. Now, American troops in Venezuela are gonna have to be there to secure the oil.

On October 27, 2025, Trump told reporters that he had a “perfect MRI:”

We had an MRI, MRI and the machine, you know, the whole thing, and it was perfect. I think they gave you a very conclusive — nobody has ever given you reports like I gave you, and if I didn’t think it was going to be good, either I would let you know negatively, I wouldn’t run, I’d do something. But the doctors said some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports they’ve ever seen.

The press has been asking about the MRI for months.

Trump has now changed his story and claimed that he never had an MRI. The president claims that he had a CT scan, “It wasn’t an MRI. It was less than that. It was a scan.”

The new year is here. The year that many Americans have been waiting for, as they will finally get to cast their ballots and have their say about the state of the country, has begun. Last year at this time, many Americans were hopeful that Donald Trump would keep his promise and lower prices on day one.

Spoiler: Trump never had any intention of doing anything to reduce prices and inflation. The president has done absolutely nothing, except cause prices go up with his tariff regime.

Many Americans were also worried that Trump was going to return to office, declare himself dictator for life, end all civil liberties, destroy democracy, and burn America to the ground.

While some freedoms are under attack, namely the rights of immigrants and press freedom, the president has overwhelmingly failed to turn himself into a president-king, and the main reason why is that the American people pushed back hard against him.

As we close out 2025, some in the media are choosing to focus on Trump rage bait, but in my view, this is a poor strategy and misuse of limited time because most of America has become desensitized or tuned out the president.

In my opinion, it is more important to focus on what this administration is doing and how it is being stopped.

One of the consistent stories of 2025 centers around the Trump administration ignoring the law and then getting slapped down by the courts or forced to follow the law.

Before Trump retook office, there were fears that no guardrails would hold and that this presidency would trample rights and democracy.

In some areas, especially on the issue of immigration, Trump has acted lawlessly and violated the rights of citizens and non-citizens alike, but in terms of what the Trump administration has tried to do with an overreach of executive power to the governing structure itself, it has largely hit a brick wall in the form of the courts.

The courts have been the firewall against the Trump administration running completely wild. The courts have done what Republicans in Congress have refused to do by acting as a check on the Executive Branch.

It was fitting that as the year inched closer to its close, the courts had one more defeat in store for Trump.

The Trump administration has turned the Kennedy Center, which serves as a living monument to former President John F. Kennedy, into a ghost town by slapping Donald Trump’s name on the Kennedy Center.

The cancellations have continued to mount after the current administration turned a non-partisan memorial into an ego trip for the current president.

The New York Times reported:

A veteran jazz ensemble and a New York dance company have canceled events at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, intensifying the fallout at one of the nation’s pre-eminent arts centers after it was renamed to include President Trump.

The center had previously promoted two New Year’s Eve performances by the Cookers as an “all-star jazz septet that will ignite the Terrace Theater stage with fire and soul.” But those performances, like an annual Christmas Eve jazz concert hosted by Chuck Redd, are now canceled.

Doug Varone and Dancers, a New York dance company, also said on Monday that it was canceling two performances in April that had been intended to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Mr. Varone, the head of the company, said it would lose $40,000 by pulling out.

“It is financially devastating but morally exhilarating,” he said in an email.

These artists who are canceling their performances are losing money. Depending on scheduling, it is possible that they could fill the lost dates, but in many cases, it will be unlikely.

The Trump administration has responded to the cancellations with the wrong approach that is likely to backfire on them and keep the venue empty, as we will discuss below.

A key to understanding the second Trump presidency is recognizing that Donald Trump isn’t working alone.

The self-created mythology that the president pushes is that he is a strong man. Trump has sold his supporters for years that he alone can fix everything, but the source of his power isn’t anything he has seized or done.

The key to Trump’s power is that Speaker Mike Johnson has gifted the power of a coequal branch of government to the president.

The House has essentially been shut down by Speaker Johnson and converted into a body that is in session sparingly and does even less. In 2025, the House was in session for 87 days and passed 46 bills. Not 46 pieces of major legislation, but 46 pieces of legislation total.

During the first year of Joe Biden’s presidency, the House passed 85 bills and 1,234 laws.

Mike Johnson claims that the House is doing oversight work and members are working back in their districts, but House Republicans are increasingly using discharge petitions to get around Johnson’s unwillingness to have the House majority serve as anything other than a rubber stamp for Trump.

By next year at this time, the House could be restored to acting as a check on the presidency if Democrats win back the majority.

On ABC’s This Week, former Speaker Pelosi discussed the state of the House and what should be the top goal of a potential Democratic majority.

Pelosi was asked by ABC’s Jon Karl about blocking Trump and she answered,
Of course, they have the power of the purse. We have the power of the purse. He cannot — but right now, right now the Republicans and the Congress have abolished the Congress. They just do what the president insists that they do. That will be over.”
