Some of us here at Nintendo Life Towers are convinced that your favourite Mario Kart game is simply the one you played first with three other players in the same room — or just one other player if you were there at the very beginning with Super Mario Kart on Super NES.

We tend to think this because while we can all agree that the latest entry may well be the greatest in the series — we’re still eagerly awaiting news of the second wave of DLC tracks! — when asked to name our personal best Mario Kart we produce almost as many answers across the team as there are games in the karting series.

What do we do in times of need? We turn to Nintendo Life readers, of course! Yes, similar to our other reader-ranked polls, we’re asking you lovely lot to settle the score once and for all and rate every Mario Kart you’ve played from the list below.

Registered Nintendo Life users can click on the stars below and rate the games out of 10. The resulting ranking is created from those fluid NL User Ratings and is therefore subject to change, even after publication. If you’ve previously rated these games in our database, thank you! If not, you can add your score to the game at any time, present or future, and it will still count and potentially influence the order.

So, fill those tanks and let’s get racin’ ratin’.

Note: We’ve excluded Mario Kart 8 for Wii U, as having Mario Kart 8 on the list twice seems a bit silly given that Deluxe contains everything from the non-Deluxe version, and more. We’ve also excluded the arcade games from the running, too — only Mario Karts you can play officially on a phone or console here!

Rate each Mario Kart you’ve played:

Thanks for rating your favourites and give us a shout if you think there’s anything missing — although as we said in the intro, we’ve purposefully omitted the arcade versions and the original, non-Deluxe Mario Kart 8.

We’ll be revealing the results very soon, but remember: much like our platform Top 50s, the list will be fluid, so even if you miss out on voting before the results are revealed, you can still influence the ranking after publication.
