Passive income plans come in all shapes and sizes. One I use is putting money regularly into the stock market and building a portfolio of dividend-paying shares.
Here is how anyone could use such a plan, starting today, to target a £700 monthly passive income from dividends.
Step 1: set up a share-dealing account
When the time comes to buy shares, a dealing account of some type will be necessary. So the first step would be looking at the different share-dealing accounts and Stocks and Shares ISAs that are available on the market and choosing a suitable one.
Step 2: setting up a regular contribution
£700 a month amounts to £8,400 a year. In a portfolio with a dividend yield of 7% (meaning it pays £7 in dividends annually for each £100 invested), that would require investing £120k.
In this example I presume someone starts with nothing and makes regular monthly contributions. I illustrate with £400, but each investor could adjust the amount to what suited them personally (though that may mean they hit the target sooner, or later).
Step 3: learning about the stock market
Is 7% a typical yield? No. It is close to double the current FTSE 100 average.
But I own some FTSE 100 shares like Legal & General (LSE: LGEN) that offer such a yield, or higher. Legal & General yields 8.5% and has announced plans to raise its dividend per share annually over the next few years.
Dividends are never guaranteed though. Legal & General cut its payout during the 2008 financial crisis. Plus, even a high-yield share can fall in price over time, potentially making for a loss-making investment.
Another such principle is spreading risk by diversifying the portfolio across different shares. That is good practice from day one.
Like Warren Buffett, my approach to finding shares to buy is sticking to what I understand and looking for great businesses selling at attractive share prices. If nothing looks attractive today, there is never a rush to buy.
With passive income in mind, it is important not just to focus on yield. It also matters whether the dividend looks sustainable. Legal & General has a lot of competitors. Earnings over the past several years have been weaker than before and the planned sale of a US business could reduce them further.
But it does have strengths, such as a proven business model, large customer base a well-known brand.
Step 5: reinvesting dividends
Rather than immediately earning passive income, an investor could initially reinvest dividends to build more capital. This is known as compounding.
Step 6: getting the income
Compounding £400 a month at 7% annually, the portfolio should be worth over £124k after 15 years. At a 7% yield, that will throw off more than £700 in monthly passive income on average.
Step 7: staying the course
Starting today is easy. But to achieve the target, an investor will need to stick with the plan over time. That also involves keeping an eye on the portfolio in case the investment case for any of the shares changes along the way.
Look at how drones have radically improved just one task performed by many industries: inspection.
Construction and real estate, energy companies, and many other industries used to send a worker climbing slowly to high, low, cramped, or dangerous places or capturing details from an airplane or helicopter. Now, it’s trivial to put a drone in the air and do the same inspection at a tiny fraction of the former cost. Drones can quickly and thoroughly (and because of the low cost, frequently) inspect power lines, utility poles, pipelines, bridges, cell towers, industrial boilers, chemical storage containers, construction sites, fermenter tanks, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage silos, wind turbines, solar panels, hydroelectric facilities, dams, agricultural fields, quarries, and all manner of confined spaces.
Their flexibility also makes them compatible with a wide range of applications. For example, drones like the Matrice 300 RTK have transformed the mapping of challenging terrain without exposing survey crews to hazardous conditions. Drone deployment for surveying can produce multiple mapping outputs, including 2D and 3D orthomosaic maps, LiDAR point clouds, 3D models, thermal maps, and multispectral maps, providing surveyors with everything they need fast and cheaply.
Nintendo added an absolute gem to its Switch Online library of classic titles this week: the 1994 Game Boy game, Donkey Kong. The beloved game arrives alongside the 1995 puzzle game, Mario’s Picross. Both are available now for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, right in time for Mario Day (March 10).

Donkey Kong built upon the arcade game that came before it, and features roughly 100 stages. The story should feel pretty familiar even to those who don’t have a nostalgic connection to it — Donkey Kong has kidnapped a beautiful woman (Pauline) and Mario is in hot pursuit to rescue her. While the Super Game Boy brought some enhancements for the original game, those haven’t been carried over for Nintendo Switch. But it should still be a treat to revisit as is. Mario’s Picross offers a totally different experience, presenting the player with a couple hundred puzzles to solve by chiseling away at boxes and uncovering the secret image below.
Yellowjackets is in its third season, which premiered in early 2025, and thanks to its success, fans are pining for a fourth season. But some are also wondering how many more seasons they can expect. After all, amid a rise in television series cancelations, viewers are hoping that Yellowjackets has a long future ahead. So, how many seasons will the show have?
Below, find out everything we know about Yellowjackets‘ future.
What Is Yellowjackets About?
Yellowjackets follows the story of a group of teenage girls whose plane crashed in the wilderness, and they must survive in the middle of nowhere. The series flashes back and forth between the teens and their future selves.
The show features a strong ensemble cast led by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Liv Hewso and Courtney Eaton as a group of teenagers. The adult versions of their characters are played by Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell.

Where Can I Watch Yellowjackets?
Season 3 of Yellowjackets is currently available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime. Seasons 1 and 2 are on Paramount+, and season 1 is also on Netflix.
Is There a Season 4 of Yellowjackets?
At the time of publication, Showtime has not renewed Yellowjackets for a fourth season. However, considering the success that the series has had so far, it’s likely that fans can expect a season 4 in the future.
How Many Seasons of Yellowjackets Will There Be?
Co-creator Ashley Lyle has previously said that Yellowjackets was intended to air for five seasons. During a March 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ashley noted, “The original plan was about five seasons, and we feel like we’re still on track for that.”
Although she pointed out that “there’s always room for things,” Ashley emphasized that “we don’t really see this as being more than a five-season show. I think that there are shows that can go forever, but I think that when you’re telling such a deeply serialized story and it’s about these characters’ lives, you want to reach a satisfying conclusion and not just drag things out forever. This isn’t really one of those setup shows where it can go anywhere. So far, we’ve been really on track. Season 2 is largely what we always planned, but you do make a lot of discoveries along the way and so it’s always a little bit surprising.”
Earning a second income does not necessarily mean going out and taking on a second job. A less time-consuming approach that many people use is buying shares that pay them dividends.
Here, I walk through the basics of that approach and show what sort of income £9k in savings might be able to generate.
Dividends can be a useful income source
When a company generates more money than it needs, it has a few choices. It might save it, it could reinvest it in the business, or it could use some or all of it to fund a dividend for shareholders.
As the explanation suggests, dividends are never guaranteed. A company needs to be able to both fund them and choose to do so.
But they can be very lucrative. This year alone, just the FTSE 100 firms on the London market are expected to distribute around £88bn in dividends. Long-term investors may already have been receiving them for decades.
Some businesses, like Guinness-owner Diageo and British American Tobacco (LSE: BATS) have grown their dividend per share annually for decades.
The importance of yield… and power of compounding
British American Tobacco has a dividend yield of 7.6%. That means for every £100 invested today, an investor would hopefully earn £7.60 in dividends annually.
In reality, it could be more. British American has announced plans to maintain its annual dividend growth. But whether it can do so depends on business performance.
One reason its yield is high (over double the FTSE 100 average) is that investors perceive the risk of falling cigarette sales hurting profits – and leading to a dividend cut. Rival producer Imperial Brands did just that in 2020, although it has since started growing its dividend again.
So 7.6% of £9,000 would be £684 a year, or £57 a month. Instead of drawing that second income immediately, an investor could reinvest (compound) it to grow a bigger portfolio. That ought to lead to a larger second income for the patient investor.
After 10 years, such an approach would be earning around £119 a month. If the investor waited 20 years before drawing the dividends as a second income instead of compounding them, the monthly reward would be £247.
Finding shares to buy
Although British American’s yield is high, I think an average 7.6% yield is achievable in today’s market, even when sticking to proven blue-chip businesses.
Diversifying across different shares is important, to reduce risk.
British American does demonstrate a lot of what I look for when finding shares to buy for my portfolio, which is why I own it and think it is worth others considering.
For example, it has a large target market. Cigarette usage may be declining in many nations, but it remains significant – and other tobacco formats have been growing in popularity.
The company has a portfolio of premium brands such as Lucky Strike. That gives it pricing power, meaning it can push up prices without losing lots of sales volume by doing so.
That helps generate sizeable free cash flows which, in turn, fund dividends – and my second income as a British American shareholder.
Travelling abroad doesn’t always go to plan and like trains and buses, sometimes flights are struck by delays and cancellations. While airlines do their best to avoid delays, sometimes problems occur that are unavoidable and when this happens, it’s important for passengers to know their legal rights.
Under UK law, airlines are required to provide passengers with care and assistance if flights are significantly delayed, and what you’re entitled to is dependent on the length of the delay. The law defines short-haul flight delays of under 1,500km as more than two hours, medium-haul delays of 1,500km – 3,500km as more than three hours, and long-haul flights of more than 3,500km as more than four hours.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), in the event of delays airlines must provide:
a reasonable amount of food and drinks (usually in the form of vouchers)
a means for you to communicate (often with call refunds)
accommodation (if you’re re-routed the following day)
transport to and from the accommodation
Airlines must provide all of these items until it is able to fly passengers to their destination, regardless of how long the delay lasts or what has caused it.
The CAA says: “Under UK law, airlines may have to provide compensation if your flight arrives at its destination more than three hours late. This depends on what caused the delay – if it wasn’t the airline’s fault, don’t expect to receive any compensation.
“Disruptions caused by things like extreme weather, airport or air traffic control employee strikes or other ‘extraordinary circumstances’ are not eligible for compensation. The length of your flight determines the amount that you may be entitled to, so it’s a good idea to check which category your flight falls into.”
In the event your flight is delayed or cancelled it’s important to know they policy of the airline you’re flying with. Listed is a breakdown of the rules on delays if you’re travelling with easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2 or British Airways.
easyJet
Depending on the length of your delay, easyJet will provide passengers with a drinks voucher to the value of £6. If your flight is delayed by two or three hours then you are entitled to vouchers. If the delay is longer than five hours then easyJet will allow you to change your flights for a later date, subject to seats being available. Or you can cancel your flight and apply for a full refund.
If a delay means you aren’t able to depart until the following day, easyJet Ground Crew will arrange overnight accommodation for you and transport to get there.
The airline adds: “We will arrange, where possible, for the hotel to provide you with an evening meal (excluding alcohol) and breakfast. If the hotel isn’t able to provide you with food, we will reimburse you up to £25 per person per day (EUR/ CHF equivalent).”
Ryanair
If short-haul or medium-haul flights are expected to be delayed for two hours or three hours or more respectively, then passengers will get assistance at the airport, including meal coupons.
If delays extend to the following delay, Ryanair says it will often provide hotel accommodation and transportation between the airport and the accommodation. If this is not offered, passengers are advised to keep all itemised receipts for any reasonable expenses and submit these to Ryanair to claim back. For delays of five hours or more, passengers who choose not to travel can request a refund.
Jet2
Jet2 says if a flight’s arrival was delayed by more than three hours, passengers may be entitled to compensation but this depends on the circumstances of the delay.
The airline will provide meals and refreshments in reasonable relation to the waiting time, two telephone calls, fax, or email messages and accommodation in cases where a stay of one or more nights becomes strictly necessary.
Jet2 explains: “Where we have arranged accommodation for our customers,we are unable to reimburse accommodation and related expenses not arranged by Jet2.com. We will provide transport to and from the place of accommodation where this has been arranged by Jet2.com.
“In the interests of customers, care while awaiting a delayed or alternative flight may be limited or declined if the provision of the care would itself cause further delay.”
If a flight has been delayed for more than five hours and passengers choose not to travel, then you may also be entitled to reimbursement of your flight ticket.
British Airways
British Airways passengers experiencing a delay of three hours or more upon arrival at their destination may be eligible for flight compensation, although this depends on the circumstances of the delay.
In the event of a delay, the airline will provide additional assistance, such as compensation, refreshments and other care and reimbursement, “if required to do so by any law that may apply”.
British Airways says: “If we cancel a flight, delay or reschedule a flight by six hours or more, fail to stop at your place of stopover or destination, or cause you to miss a connecting flight on which you hold a confirmed reservation, you you are entitled to a cash refund of the fare for the cancelled, delayed or rescheduled flight.
“We will attempt to offer re-accommodation in order to carry you as soon as we can to the destination shown on your ticket on another of our scheduled services on which a seat is available in the class of service for which you have paid the fare. If you do not accept the offered re-accommodation your refund will be automatically processed as required by applicable regulation. If you accept the offered re-accommodation, we will not charge you extra and where necessary, will extend the validity period of your ticket.”
Some action stars prefer shooting and blowing things up. Others prefer using their hands and feet as weapons. Jean-Claude Van Damme, nicknamed “The Muscles from Brussels,” falls under the latter category. Considering his martial arts background, the actor’s preference for old-fashioned one-on-one combat is hardly surprising. His father enrolled him in a Shotokan karate school when he was only 10, and after a short while, he earned a 2nd-dan black belt in karate.
As a teen, Jean-Claude Van Damme won the middleweight title at the European Professional Karate Association as well as the Mr. Belgium bodybuilding title. Soon after, Hollywood came calling and he took full advantage of the opportunity. In the years that followed, Van Damme would star in some of the most popular martial arts-themed action movies. For this list, we shall leave out gun-heavy movies like Hard Target and Sudden Death, only focusing on those where martial arts is the primary focus.
Twins look adorable together, but movie villains always think it wise to separate them. Such is what happens in Double Impactwhere Chad and Alex Wagner (both portrayed by Van Damme) find themselves in different parts of the world after their parents get murdered by the goons of a crime boss. Chad spends his younger years in Paris and Alex in Hong Kong. Luckily, they reunite as adults and vow to take down the person who ruined their family.
Double Kicks
This laconic exploration of revenge and brotherly love isn’t a paragon of action cinema, but it’s entertaining. Van Damme took on the role after seeing Jeremy Irons portray a dual role in Dead Ringers and because he felt he’d be able to showcase his acting skills more. Well, no performance is worthy of an award here, and the plot is lean, but what’s better than two Van Dammes beating miscreants? Bolo Yeung is back too, so watch out Chad and Alex.

Director
Eric Karson
Black Eagle’s protagonist is Ken Tani (Shō Kosugi), an American martial artist and special agent codenamed “Black Eagle.” When an F-111 carrying a laser tracking device is shot down in Malta’s airspace by Russian forces, Ken is sent to retrieve it. But he isn’t alone. A group of KGB agents led by Colonel Vladimir Klimenko and his lackey, Andrei (Jean-Claude van Damme), are also heading to the site. Grab popcorn.
Blending Martial Arts and Espionage
The endless fight sequences and paranoiac mood make for mesmerizing viewing in Black Eagle. Shō Kosugi brings texture, verve, and flair to the central role and Van Damme is effectively refreshing in his villainous role. The final product is a spine-tingling affair that makes you feel like you are the one getting hit. The film could have used better subplots, but pure action fans are unlikely to complain.
Kurt Sloane (Jean-Claude Van Damme) fromKickboxer looks up to his brother, Eric, a U.S. kickboxing champion. Unfortunately, Eric gets brutally paralyzed during a fight with Muay Thai fighter Tong Po, leaving Kurt with nothing but revenge on his mind. He seeks out Master Xian Chow for training, and while at it, he enjoys the steadfast love of Chow’s niece.
Discover the Art of Muay Thai
Kickboxer‘s strength lies in its subtle metamorphosis from a wholesome family drama into a dark story of barbarity and resilience. Despite relying on the genre’s dated attributes, the film fascinates. Unquestionably, Van Damme, with his star-wattage, gives one of his greatest performances, and Michel Qissi fits the emotionless Tong Po to a tee. Today, this picture is still celebrated as the first one to bring Muay Thai to a global audience.
These action sequels were soulless cash grabs that missed the mark and failed to recognize what made the originals so enjoyable.

‘Street Fighter’ (1994)
Based on the video game of the same name, Street Fighter follows Colonel Guile (Van Damme) on a mission to bring down General M. Bison (Raul Julia), the malevolent drug-dealing dictator of Shadaloo City, who aims to conquer the globe using an army of genetic supersoldiers. While a itt, Guile enlists the help of a few street fighters.
As Incredible as the Game
Directed by Steven E. de Souza (better known for scripting the ‘80s action hitsCommando and Die Hard), Street Fighterhas all the color and vim befitting a top-shelf video game adaptation production. The ingenious story creates room for plenty of fights, as is the case with the game, making this irresistible entertainment. Van Damme and Julia never hit a false note while playing off each other, the latter’s goofiness complementing the former’s fiery persona personally. Consequently, Julia received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Behold! Yet another brother in Lionheart. The film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Lyon, a French Foreign Legionnaire who leaves his post without authorization and heads to Los Angeles after learning that bro has been brutally killed. He then joins the underground fighting circuit so he can feed his brother’s widow and child. As he seeks revenge, Legion officers also pursue him for desertion.
Family vs. Patriotism
Lionheart marked Van Damme’s breakthrough as a leading man and for a good reason. Who wouldn’t love a man that’s willing to fight to the death so that his niece can get a bicycle? The actor’s battered hero represents the true American protagonist, standing up for family and devoid of pretension. The actor himself also considers this an essential film for anyone who wants to check out his movies. Miss anything, but don’t miss Lyon’s adventures.
In Bloodsport, Frank Dux (Vane Damme), a marine, decides to participate in Kumite, a brutal and clandestine martial arts tournament in Hong Kong, as a way to honor his mentor. He does so without alerting his superiors. Predictably, trouble emerges later on.
Battle of the Titans
Made with love by Newt Arnold, this taut martial arts thriller is terrifying and literate, with consummate performances from Bolo Yeung (at his dour and vicious best), Forest Whitaker, Leah Ayres, Donald Gibb, and Roy Chiao. The film heavily boosted the careers of Van Damme and Yeung (never creepier than you’ll see him here), playing a sadistic fighter with iron fists who keeps triggering cackling, psycho laughter among his supporters. The fight sequences are handled with expert attention to detail, so get ready for a gritty, hard-hitting affair.

‘The Quest’ (1996)
The Quest
Release Date
April 19, 1996
Runtime
95 minutes
The Quest dumps Van Damme into the 1920s, where he is Christopher Dubois, a street thief evading the police. To avoid capture, he becomes a stowaway on a ship, only to get captured by pirates and sold as a slave. He eventually finds himself in Tibet where he participates in the legendary Ghang-gheng martial arts tournament.
International Stakes
The film feels like the Olympics, mainly because each fighter represents a different country. You’ll love how politics are handled. For example, Okinawa, which was annexed by Japan in 1879, is given a separate spot in the tournament because of its historic role in the development of martial arts. Beyond the fights, the acting is superb. Van Damme is amazing as usual, but watch out for Bond actor Roger Moore as a villainous, slave-trading mercenary.

A cyborg named Pearl Prophet (Dayle Haddon) is soon tasked with transporting vital information that might cure the disease. Unfortunately, she gets kidnapped. After learning about the developments, slinger Gibson Rickenbacker (Van Damme) springs into action.
Cheap and Shiny
The plot of Cyborg might be rooted in science fiction, but it’s a martial arts affair. Director Albert Pyun refrains from bothering audiences with the theory. Instead, we get countless beatdowns in the wasteland. Pyun wrote the film in one weekend and filmed it in 23 days. With a budget of $500,000, it is one of the cheapest movies ever made, but there is so much fun that you won’t notice it.
Let’s rewind time back to the 2000s and revisit these forgotten action films.

He soon discovers Bruce Lee’s spirit and becomes an expert. But his ultimate test comes when he is pitted against the syndicate’s enforcer, Ivan Kraschinsky (played by Jean-Claude Van Damme).
Taking Things Seriously
The film borrows a thing or two from Rocky IV and The Karate Kid, but it still walks its path, thanks to the Bruce Lee storyline. The fight sequences also look very realistic, which isn’t surprising considering how intense Van Damme was on set. He reportedly knocked Pete Cunningham unconscious, forcing the director to ban him from making contact with any actors or stuntmen. A true action star who can kick a**.

Wearing the Tutor Cap
A moving tale of cross-generational camaraderie, Kickboxer: Retaliation hits high notes from all angles. Beautiful shots of Bangkok and its environs further accent the sensitively choreographed underdog story. Van Damme is perfect in his mentor role, a move clearly inspired by the Creed movies. You’ll also love the supporting cast, which includes boxing legend Mike Tyson as a convict forced into the brutal world of kickboxing.
Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Chicago P.D. season 12, episode 15.
Following Med and Fire, new episodes of Chicago P.D. air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. Season 12, episode 15, premiered March 5 and ends with Voight plotting to take Reid down once and for all. The official synopsis reads: “Voight questions Deputy Chief Reid’s motives in enacting a Violence Reduction Initiative across a neighborhood where numerous gangs are fighting for territory.”
“Greater Good” also showcases a new side to Reid, revealing that his mother was killed during a bank robbery. While it’s difficult to trust the character, star Shawn Hatosy, believes his confession is genuine. The tragedy is what led Reid to law enforcement and helped shape the moral code he operates under.
Dick Wolf’s One Chicago franchise continues to be the crown jewel of NBC’s fall schedule, but will Chicago P.D. get renewed for its 13th season?
ScreenRant interviews Shawn Hatosy about diving into Reid’s past, whether the character can be redeemed, and his ending conversation with Voight in Chicago P.D. season 12, episode 15.
Hatosy Was Excited About Reid’s Storyline in Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 15
“It’s like there are these small little morsels that we get to see Reid in his element.”
ScreenRant: There were a lot of reveals this episode. What surprised you most when you were reading the script?
Shawn Hatosy: It’s been a slow reveal with Reid. The writer has been so wonderful about keeping me up to date with what’s going on and what’s going to happen, and they brought him in very slow. It’s like there are these small little morsels that we get to see Reid in his element, and we see that he’s this police kind of chief.
I was just excited to finally get something heavy to work with because there’s a big workload for Chief Reid in this episode. So I was just excited to roll up my sleeves and dig in and finally get a chance to have an opportunity to get into it with Voight.
We find out that Reid’s mom was killed in a bank robbery. How do you feel that’s impacted the officer he’s become?
Shawn Hatosy: It’s an interesting dynamic because I find Voight and Reid are so similar. They’re kind of the same kind of cop. They’re not afraid to sort of cross the line to get done what needs to be done. It was presented to me that Reid may be the antagonist for the season. So, reading it, you get all these questions.
Is this real or is he being manipulative? And my feeling was all of this is real. And that bank robber story with his mom, I think it is his origin story, and I think it is what pushed him into police work and trying to find his way. I think that, as a cop, you’re faced with decisions, and from time to time, Reid has kind of gone to the dark side. That’s my belief. I don’t know exactly what the writers have in store, but that’s what I’ve been going with.
Hatosy Unpacks Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 15’s Ending
“It’s what makes Hank go to Chapman and say, ‘We need to bring this guy down.'”
He does make an interesting point when he says violence has no ethics. Since Voight did end up using the warrant, do you think Reid impacted his perception of the situation?
Shawn Hatosy: I think so, and I think going forward, that is the center of the relationship because Reid comes to Voight from time to time throughout the rest of the season and asks him to do things that Voight isn’t necessarily comfortable doing. Reid says, “If this friendship is going to work, you’re going to have to do the things I say and whatever means necessary.”
So I think we’re going to find out as this goes on, where is Voight in all of this? Has he changed? And through these years we’ve seen him, obviously, do things that are questionable. But I think seeing Reid and Voight together, it sort of puts a mirror up and gives Voight an opportunity to decide what his legacy is going to be.
Can you break down that ending conversation between Voight and Reid in the car?
Shawn Hatosy: I really enjoyed shooting that scene. I haven’t seen it yet. It’s one of my favorite scenes that we’ve worked on just because of the cat-and-mouse game that’s going on between the two of them. Voight pretty much calls Reid out and says, “You’re using this guy to do what you need to do so that you can pretend like you’re policing, but what you’re really doing is you’re using a bad guy to do what you need.”
I just really loved the dynamic of the two in the car. We had a lot of fun shooting. It was pretty cold that day. It was a Saturday. I remember that. I’m trying to remember the exact dynamic of the scene, but I do recall the way it ended and Reid says to Voight, “You and I—we’re no different. We’re exactly the same, pretty much.” And that sums it up. And I think, pushing the story forward, it’s what makes Hank go to Chapman and say, “We need to bring this guy down.”
Hatosy Believes Reid Is Capable Of Redemption In Chicago P.D.
“I think his intentions are pure. I think they’re good.”
As you were saying, Reid is presented as the antagonist. Do you think that part of him has good intentions? Could he be redeemed?
Shawn Hatosy: One hundred percent, because I think his origin story is true. I think he suffered loss, and it’s so challenging and difficult to process what that loss feels like. I think his intentions are pure. I think they’re good.
I think that, in all walks of life, you have to decide if doing something a little bit questionable to bring down the bad guy—okay, sure we’ve done this, but this guy’s off the street, so we kind of have to look the other way. I think that he really does come from a place of good, and I hope that we continue along that path as the season unfolds.
Going off of that, is there a particular storyline that you hope the show will explore for Reid?
Shawn Hatosy: That’s a good question. As I was presented the character and these little morsels of scenes, you see it in, I believe it was Episode 8, where Reid discovers that Torres had an affair with his CI, and they all covered it up, and that’s where the beginning of this relationship with Voight began.
But there was a scene at the end of that episode where Voight comes to his office, and Reid is in there, and this idea that this guy has come onto this show where this beloved Voight, who is the boss, is in his office, and just sort of putting his feet up on his desk and drinking coffee. Every time I get a chance to explore that, like, “This isn’t your team, man. I’m your boss. This is my team!” I love going through that stuff with him and seeing how it affects his character.

The Intelligence Unit will be tested as it learns how to work efficiently with a new Deputy Chief of Police. In addition, a new member has been added to its ranks – Officer Kiana Cook, a tough patrol officer ready to prove her worth within the unit.
Brian James, the founding guitarist for the visionary and influential U.K. punk band The Damned, has died. He was 70.
James’ death on March 6 was confirmed on his official Facebook page, though no cause was listed. “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of one of the true pioneers of music, guitarist, songwriter, and true gentleman, Brian James,” the statement read.
The Damned have an exceptionally important place in rock history, releasing “New Rose,” arguably the first-ever punk single in the U.K., in 1976. The Damned also were the first band of their scene to release a studio album (1977’s “Damned Damned Damned”) and to tour the United States.
The London-born James began his music career in the proto-punk band London SS, which featured future members of the Clash and Generation X. He soon met another local band, Masters of the Backside, which featured future Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde, vocalist Dave Vanian, bassist Captain Sensible and drummer Rat Scabies. Minus Hynde, James formed The Damned with the other three members in 1976. The band made its debut that year, and opened for the Sex Pistols at 100 Club, a notorious London venue that helped codify the scene.
Five weeks before the Sex Pistols released “Anarchy in the U.K.,” the most famous early punk single, the Damned released “New Rose.” The fast and frenetic single penned by James stripped down and supercharged the British rock of the era, smeared it with black eyeliner and lipstick, and announced a new sound and subculture to the world.

The Damned soon would accompany the Pistols on a brief tour. After playing the U.S., the Damned arguably kicked off both the hardcore punk and goth-rock subcultures in Southern California — bands like Black Flag were inspired by their minimalism and ultra-fast tempos, while proto-goths like Christian Death and 45 Grave were captivated by their transgressive aesthetics.
James was the primary songwriter on the Damned’s first two albums, but after 1977’s “Music for Pleasure,” the Damned briefly broke up and re-formed without James. He went on to tour as a member of Iggy Pop’s live band, recorded solo material with the Police’s Stewart Copeland on drums, and co-founded the band Lords of the New Church with Stiv Bators. The original lineup of the Damned occasionally reunited for live shows, first in 1988 and most recently in 2022.
“Always looking for new challenges and keen to work with different musicians,” his family’s statement read, James was “incessantly creative and a musical tour de force, over a career which spanned more than six decades.”
James is survived by his wife, Minna, son, Charlie, and daughter-in-law, Alicia.
