5 UK stocks Fools have been buying!

0

Investing alongside you, fellow Foolish investors, here’s a selection of stocks that some of our contributors have been buying across the past month!

Airtel Africa

What it does: Airtel Africa provides mobile telecommunication services to 14 countries across the African continent.

By Mark Hartley. I bought Airtel Africa (LSE: AAF) shares a few months ago after the price dipped near a three-year low. This came after underwhelming Q2 2025 results, with earnings per share (EPS) missing expectations by 80%. Despite the drop, I have felt confident in the group’s long-term potential for some time so the low price seemed like a good opportunity. It has since recovered 51%, making it one of the best-performing stocks in my portfolio.

However, it still faces significant risks from currency devaluation in Nigeria, one of its core markets. Rising fuel prices pose another risk as the company uses generators to power its remote cell towers. To mitigate the losses, the company is working to reduce its exposure to foreign exchange, having paid down $809m in forex debt exposure. Despite the rising price, the stock still appears undervalued with a forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of only 7.

Mark David Hartley owns shares in Airtel Africa.

Ashtead Technology

What it does: Ashtead Technology is a leading subsea equipment rental and solutions provider for the global offshore energy industry.

By Ben McPoland. I recently bought more shares of Ashtead Technology (LSE: AT.). The specialist rental firm continues to advance, fueled by its acquisition-driven growth strategy.

For 2024, it expects revenue to reach £168m, a 52% year-on-year increase, with underlying operating profit exceeding the consensus forecast of £46.6m.

In the full-year trading update, CEO Allan Pirie commented: “With one of the largest and most technologically advanced rental fleets in the industry and a continued focus on operational excellence, we remain confident in the Group’s ability to generate substantial long-term value for shareholders.”

I agree with that, though the company’s growth is dependent on offshore oil, gas, and renewables markets. Economic downturns or declining energy prices could reduce exploration and capital expenditure, leading to lower demand for rented equipment.

At present though, Ashtead Technology is in a strong position. Ongoing market demand and record customer backlogs give it confidence that growth will continue through 2025.

A final attraction for me here is the valuation. At 528p (as I write), the stock is trading at just 10 times forecast earnings for 2026.

Ben McPoland owns shares in Ashtead Technology Holdings.

Bakkavor

What it does: Bakkavor is a fresh prepared food group, supplying supermarkets with products such as bread, pizza, ready meals and salad.

By Roland Head. FTSE 250 firm Bakkavor (LSE: BAKK) is not a household name, but its products are found on the shelves of all the UK’s major supermarkets.

I recently added this business to my portfolio. I see it as a steady grower and was encouraged by 2025 forecast earnings growth of 10%. That prices the stock on just 12 times forecast earnings, with a tempting dividend yield of 5.9%.

I’m also reassured by the continued influence of the company’s founders, Agust and Lydur Gudmundsson. They control almost 50% of the shares and sit on the board.

Outside the UK, Bakkavor also operates in the US and China. China looks like the main risk to me, for investors. In addition to geopolitical risks, the China business is currently relatively small and loss making.

However, I don’t see this as a reason to avoid Bakkavor, which looks decent value to me at current levels.

Roland Head owns shares in Bakkavor.

Games Workshop

What it does: Games Workshop manufactures tabletop gaming products including models, paints and manuals.

By Royston Wild. Fantasy wargaming giant Games Workshop (LSE:GAW) enjoyed another barnstorming year in 2024, rising 35% in value since 1 January.

Yet it fell sharply from record closing peaks of £142.70 per share in December, and dropped further following half-year financials last month. I used this as an opportunity to increase my holdings.

There’s been no spooky news coming from the Warhammer maker in recent weeks. Indeed, January’s update showed sales up 14% in the six months to 1 December, helped by licensing revenues soaring 149% in the period.

Games Workshop may endure some near-term turbulence if consumer spending remains weak. Yet this hasn’t proved an obstacle to its breakneck growth story just yet. This reflects in large part its niche product lines and loyal customer base.

I remain supremely confident in the FTSE 100 firm’s long-term outlook. The tabletop gaming segment has scope for further significant growth. And Games Workshop’s film and TV deal with Amazon could supercharge royalty revenues in the years ahead.

Royston Wild owns shares in Games Workshop.

Glencore

What it does: Glencore is one of the world’s largest natural resource companies with operations across 35 countries.

By Andrew Mackie. As a die-hard value investor, I spend a lot of my spare time searching for stocks that I believe are undervalued relative to their long-term prospects. Trading at levels not seen since early 2022, Glencore (LSE: GLEN) is near the top of that list.

In the years ahead, I envisage a mismatch in the supply-demand dynamics for many of its commodities, in particular copper.

It’s no great secret that demand for copper is rising across the globe. Electricity grids are creaking at the seams as demand for electricity from the likes of data centres and EVs continue to grow. And now with a US administration keen to rebuild its country’s manufacturing prowess, I can’t see anything other than demand increasing.

Set this against a global investor community more interested in chasing tech stocks higher, and what has been the result? An industry starved of capital, risk averse and with little incentive for exploration.

Sustained low commodities prices (mainly because of weak Chinese demand) continues to weigh down on its share price. This remains one of the most important short-term risks. But looking a decade out, I remain bullish.

Andrew Mackie owns shares in Glencore.

Charles Barkley rips Kendrick Perkins, ‘idiots’ at ESPN, his future TV home

0

Charles Barkley isn’t a talking head on ESPN yet.

That will happen next year, when TNT’s popular “Inside the NBA” studio show — which stars Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith as analysts and Ernie Johnson as host — will be licensed out to air on ESPN starting with the 2025-26 season.

In the meantime, Barkley doesn’t seem to have a problem ripping the current ESPN talking heads, calling the group collectively “idiots” and “fools” and singling out one of them, Kendrick Perkins, by name.

Barkley did acknowledge, however, that “we going to become fools next year when we’ll be working on that network.”

Speaking on air Thursday before the Lakers’ game against the New York Knicks, Barkley went on a lengthy rant about what he perceives to be partiality shown by ESPN toward the Lakers and Golden State Warriors, while teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder are having better overall seasons but don’t receive the same amount of coverage.

The Cavaliers (52-10) and Thunder (51-11) have the two best records in the NBA. The Lakers and Warriors have come on strong in recent weeks, with L.A. going 9-2 since adding recent acquisition Luka Doncic to the lineup and Golden State also going 9-2 since trading for Jimmy Butler.

Winners of their last eight games, the Lakers have bolted up to No. 2 in the Western Conference standings but still trail Oklahoma City by 10½ games. The Warriors are at No. 6 in the conference, 16½ games behind the Thunder.

But the Lakers and Warriors have combined for 23 NBA titles overall and 10 since 2000, L.A most recently won it in 2020 and Golden State in 2022. The Cavaliers and Thunder have won two titles total (Cleveland in 2016 and the Thunder when they were the Seattle SuperSonics in 1979), which would seem to give the California teams a possible edge in national recognition and popularity.

All of that set the stage for Barkley’s diatribe, which had the ex-Laker O’Neal in stitches by the midway point.

“I saw a fool, idiot on TV talking about the Lakers saved the NBA,” Barkley said. “He’s an idiot and a fool, but he know who he is. What’s his name, Shaq? Kendrick Perkins. … He said the Lakers saved the NBA season. That’s because of them fools at the other network, which we’re going to be working at next year, that’s all they talk about.

“Let me tell y’all something. … The Lakers are doing great. Got a long way to go. But the season’s been going great for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Y’all just want to talk about the Warriors and the Lakers. They’re both doing great, don’t get me wrong. If I turn out to be wrong, I got no problem with that. But y’all are idiots cause y’all talk about the Lakers and the Warriors all the time.

“The Cleveland Cavaliers have won 12 straight games. Oklahoma City got the MVP and they are on fire. Y’all are talking about who’s in second place. That’s the reason I get pissed.

“Oklahoma City and the Cavs been balling for six months. Y’all talking about teams that had two great weeks.”

Barkley went on to take a shot at the talking heads who like to debate about who is the all-time best player, Michael Jordan or LeBron James.

“I’ve said it for years, the only people talking about LeBron and Michael is people on television who got no talent to talk about anything else,” Barkley said.

At halftime, with the Lakers trailing the Knicks by nine, Barkley couldn’t help but pile on.

“I’m not a hater. I’m just worried about people on the other network,” he said. “They’re gonna be sad tomorrow. They’re gonna be sad and crying. ‘A Laker loss!’”

TNT’s NBA account on X posted a video of some of Barkley’s comments — calling them “an all-time Lakers rant” — but left out the parts about Perkins and some of the remarks about ESPN.

ESPN declined to comment for this story.

Perkins, on the other hand, had plenty to say about Barkley’s comments in two posts Thursday on X.

“Hey @NBAonTNT might wanna tell that senior citizen Charles Barkley that I’ll be around,” wrote Perkins, who played 14 years in the NBA and won a title with the Boston Celtics in 2008. “When he see an idiot or fool in person make sure he keep that same energy.”

Perkins added in a separate post hours later, following the Lakers’ overtime win over the Knicks: “‘The Idiot’ is headed on @SportsCenter to talk ALL Lakers!!!! THEY said Bron and Luka couldn’t play together but their play say otherwise. THEY said we’re going to be crying in the morning talking about the Lakers. They’re WRONG AGAIN. … #IACTUALLYWATCHBASKETBALL”

February’s IT job market in the US shows mixed signals; unemployment ticks up – Computerworld

0

The jobs report shows a market trying to balance itself amid falling consumer confidence and ongoing economic uncertaintyr\, according to Ger Doyle, US country manager for staffing firm ManpowerGroup. While the labor market remains resilient, job seekers face challenges, and signs of cooling indicate cautious employer behavior.

“This year, our real-time data shows that demand is down 6%,” Doyle said in a statement. “We’re also seeing month-over-month declines in areas tied to consumer confidence and goods production — particularly with retail managers, where demand has dropped 16% — and in wholesale and manufacturing, down 20%. These declines are noticeable and indicate that the pace of hiring has slowed.”

Employment by tech sector companies declined by a net 11,514 positions in February, with tech services and tech manufacturing accounting for most of the retreat. At the same time, tech employment across all industry sectors increased by an estimated 177,000 for February, according to CompTIA’s analysis.

Games Done Quick’s next weeklong charity speedrunning shindig kicks off this weekend. Frost Fatales, one of GDQ’s two events celebrating women and femmes, runs from March 9 to 16, raising money for the nonprofit National Women’s Law Center.

Frost Fatales is the winter installment of the pair of events organized by GDQ’s Frame Fatales speedrunning community. (Its summer counterpart is Flame Fatales.) Last year’s Frost Fatales raised $155,000 for the same nonprofit, which fights for gender justice in issues central to the lives of women and girls. Since the first Frame Fatales event in 2019, the biannual speedruns have raised over $1 million for charity.

This year’s festivities dive right into the deep end with a run of the charmingly punishing Cuphead at 1PM ET on Sunday, followed by Super Mario Odyssey a mere hour later. Anyone who can beat Cuphead in that time deserves a Medal of Honor.

Other notable runs from the week include the OG Legend of Zelda on Sunday, the Wii reboot of Punch-Out!! on Monday, a “girl squad” three-way race in Final Fantasy X-2 on Wednesday and a race to defeat Ganon (again) in Breath of the Wild on Saturday. The week wraps up with a one-handed (say what?) speedrun of the indie platforming classic Celeste later that night.

You can check out GDQ’s schedule for the full lineup of games. The weeklong event streams exclusively on the GDQ Twitch channel (also embedded below), starting with that must-see Cuphead run at 1PM ET on Sunday.

About His Angioplasty Procedure & More – Hollywood Life

0

Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead alongside their dog at their New Mexico home on February 26, 2025.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza initially released a statement to the Santa Fe New Mexican, via The Guardian, confirming the deaths: “We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday.”

The sheriff’s office also stated that “an active and ongoing investigation” into their deaths is underway. Hackman was 95 years old, and his wife was 63.

The actor retired in 2004 and mentioned that health issues were one of the reasons he decided to step away from his career. With the news of their deaths, learn more about Hackman’s health over the years below.

Gene Hackman’s Health

In 1990, at the age of 60, Hackman underwent an angioplasty, according to a report by the United Press International. Hackman had been experiencing chest pains that radiated down one of his arms while vacationing in Oregon. Doctors later revealed that he was only hours away from having a heart attack.

“We got him just in the nick of time,” Dr. Herbert Semler told UPI. “Fortunately for him, it was in a very excellent area that we could easily reach with a balloon catheter and dilate it.” Semler also noted that the narrowing of the artery, which caused the pain, was part of the natural aging process.

In 2004, Hackman made his final film appearance in Welcome to Mooseport alongside Ray Romano. In a 2008 interview, he confirmed his retirement to Reuters, but in a 2009 interview with Empire, he revealed that health issues played a significant role in his decision.

“The doctor advised me that my heart wasn’t in the kind of shape that I should be putting it under any stress,” Hackman explained.

In 2012, Hackman was airlifted to the hospital after being struck by a car while riding his bike in the Florida Keys, though he fortunately escaped with minor injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, as reported by CNN.

What Is an Angioplasty?

An angioplasty is a medical procedure used to open blocked or narrowed blood vessels, typically arteries, to improve blood flow. It is commonly performed to treat coronary artery disease. During the procedure, a small balloon is inserted into the affected artery and inflated to widen it. In some cases, a stent (a small mesh tube) is placed to help keep the artery open. Angioplasty can help reduce the risk of heart attacks and other complications related to poor blood circulation.

How Did Gene Hackman Die?

Over a week after their deaths, the causes of death for Hackman and Arakawa were revealed, according to E! News. The outlet reported that surveillance footage of Arakawa is believed to have died on February 11, 2025, and her cause of death was hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which is a severe respiratory illness transmitted through rodent urine, droppings and saliva.

Hackman’s pacemaker last showed activity on February 18, according to the medical investigator, suggesting he “probably died around February 18.” The investigator also noted that Hackman was in “a very poor state of health” at the time of his death and believes his heart disease likely contributed to his passing. His cause of death was determined to be hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD)—or hardening of the arteries—with Alzheimer’s disease as a significant contributing factor.

The beautiful ‘Seychelles of Europe’ with the ‘world’s best beach’ and 26C heat | Travel News | Travel

0

The Cíes Islands, off the coast of Galicia in Spain, are a hidden gem, and far less crowded than popular destinations like Tenerife or Ibiza. Part of the National Park of Atlantic Islands, the islands are renowned for their pristine white-sand beaches, dunes, cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and marine caves, which serve as a vital habitat for various species, including significant colonies of aquatic birds.

Rodas Beach was named the best beach in the world by The Guardian in 2007, surpassing even the Seychelles and the Caribbean. These protected islands are a paradise for those who love the beach, hiking, and nature enthusiasts alike, with no cars, hotels, and strict limits on visitors, ensuring their preservation. Travel blog Ta Ta Cheers even branded the islands ‘Spain’s answer to the Seychelles.’

The archipelago includes three main islands: Faro, Monteagudo, and San Martiño, each with white sand and emerald waters.

Faro Island, aptly named “Lighthouse Island,” is home to a lighthouse perched 178 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of the surrounding national park and the Atlantic Ocean.

Monteagudo Island, the largest of the three, is connected to Faro Island by Rodas Beach—a stunning stretch of sand that only appears at low tide.

The islands also enjoy average temperatures of 26C during the summer months.

San Martiño Island is the southernmost and most secluded of the Cíes Islands and is known for its beach of San Martiño with its white sand and clear waters.

To visit these islands, you’ll need to get authorisation by completing a form, and purchase a ferry ticket.

Ferries depart from Vigo, Baiona, and Cangas, though most visitors choose to depart from Vigo.

With its spectacular hiking trails, rich biodiversity, and beaches that rival those of the Seychelles or the Caribbean, the Cíes Islands are a natural paradise away from the crowds of Tenerife or Ibiza.

A last-minute buy for Stocks & Shares ISA investors to consider!

0

A sense of panic is rising on stock markets as the threat of ‘Trump Tariffs’ and reciprocal action from other major economies grows. But I’m not tempted to run for the hills. Instead, I’m searching for great stocks to buy before next month’s Stocks and Shares ISA deadline.

Any of my £20,000 annual allowance that I don’t use before 5 April is lost, as it can’t be rolled over to the 2025/26 tax year. So it makes sense to at least deposit as much money as I can in my ISA before that date. This is even if I don’t actually buy any shares, trusts, or funds with it.

Please note that tax treatment depends on the individual circumstances of each client and may be subject to change in future. The content in this article is provided for information purposes only. It is not intended to be, neither does it constitute, any form of tax advice. Readers are responsible for carrying out their own due diligence and for obtaining professional advice before making any investment decisions.

I’m not planning to stop building by Stocks and Shares ISA despite current uncertainty. This is because I buy stocks for the long term, and as a consequence volatility like we’re currently seeing doesn’t dampen my investing appetite. In fact, recent market sell-offs leave me with a chance to go hunting for bargains.

Finally, with a broad spectrum of assets to choose from, I can invest in assets that may remain resilient — or perhaps even thrive — if the economic and political landscape worsens.

Here’s one such safe haven on my watchlist today.

Rising in the gloom

Demand for gold-related assets like the iShares Physical Gold ETF (LSE:SGLN) is soaring as financial market tension grows.

According to the World Gold Council (WGC), global bullion-backed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) reported inflows of $9.6bn in February, the strongest level for almost three years. Holdings increased across Europe, Asia, and North America (where inflows were at their greatest since July 2020).

Demand for the yellow metal continues to soar despite its increasing expensiveness. Its latest record high around $2,959 per ounce was printed a fortnight ago. It’s currently up $775 over the last year, and is (in my opinion) set to keep appreciating.

Fears over geopolitical realignment — including the developing landscape around the Ukraine war — look set to continue simmering. The US dollar could also keep tumbling as worries over the impact of President Trump’s policies on the US economy grow.

A weaker dollar makes it more cost effective to buy buck-denominated assets like precious metals. The world’s reserve currency recently dropped to multi-month lows against both sterling and the euro.

A top fund

I’m a fan of ETFs like the iShares one because, unlike buying gold stocks (or a fund of mining shares), ISA investors can gain exposure to gold without the risks associated with digging for precious metals.

The market for gold ETFs can also be more liquid than that for many mining shares, making it easier and more cost effective for investors to buy and sell them.

I like iShares Physical Gold specifically because it’s one of the more popular funds out there, too. And its 0.12% ongoing charge is also one of the lowest in the business.

Of course funds like this aren’t immune to risk. Like gold itself, they are in danger of plummeting if market confidence improves and demand for riskier assets grows.

Yet, on balance, I believe the iShares Physical Gold ETF is worth serious consideration before April’s ISA deadline.

Sorry, but Lance Barber Is Wrong About This ‘Young Sheldon’ Character

0

Young Sheldon was set to focus on the early life of Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage), the break-out character from the sitcom The Big Bang Theory, played by Jim Parsons as an adult in that show. But as the show continued through its seven-season run, the attention shifted focus to the entire Cooper family.

This included parents George Sr. (Lance Barber) and Mary (Zoe Perry), older brother Georgie (Montana Jordan), twin sister Missy (Raegan Revord), and grandmother Connie “Meemaw” (Annie Potts). There were other supporting characters who got their own storylines, too. But fans believe that by the end, one character in particular was overlooked and should have gotten more screen time than she did. This is despite Barber suggesting that her being overlooked was “intentional.”

Missy’s Story Was Seriously Lacking

Fans first learn about Sheldon’s twin sister Missy from how he describes her in The Big Bang Theory along with her few cameo appearances as an adult, played by Courtney Henggeler. He often describes her as being shallow, ditzy, and aimless. Misty proves this to be somewhat right, simply getting by while working as a chain restaurant hostess and dealing with a failed marriage and unwanted fourth pregnancy.

In Young Sheldon, it appears there are many layers to Missy. She might have turned out differently had circumstances changed. Even though she and Sheldon were the same age, she was like the stereotypical middle child. Mary gave all her attention to Sheldon, who demanded it given his tremendous IQ, sped-up schooling timeline, and lack of social skills that made her worry about him.

Older brother Georgie was the troublemaker who also required his parents’ attention in hopes that he could make something of his life. He ended up getting a much older woman pregnant at the age of 17, getting married, and starting his own life as a father and provider. But prior to that, Mary and George tried to keep as watchful an eye on Georgie as they could and push him to do better.

As a result, Missy was largely ignored. She never had the type of mother-daughter relationship with Mary one would expect. Her mother’s deep religious beliefs meant she didn’t understand Missy’s focus on fashion, make-up, boys, and rebelliousness. Missy had a closer relationship with her father that had its ups and downs as she went through typical growing pains. But when it came to parenting, George usually stepped aside to let Mary handle things, which sometimes meant Missy was left by the wayside.

She had already begun to rebel prior to George’s death, largely a factor of so much attention being placed on either Sheldon’s academic needs or Georgie’s upcoming baby. It was a clear cry for help for someone, anyone, to notice her and ask her how her day was, what she was going through, or how they could help. Missy’s untapped potential is evident when she steps up to the plate to manage the house when her mother is away in Germany with Sheldon. She cooks, cleans, divides chores, and basically fills Mary’s shoes. Yet even that goes largely unnoticed and certainly unappreciated.

When Missy loses her father during a pivotal time in her life, it breaks her. But even then, she doesn’t get the support she needs. With Mary grieving, Sheldon gone off to college, Georgie dealing with his own family, and Connie still navigating the loss of her home, Missy is once again left to fend for herself in a crucial time of need. The finale answered many questions but left the situation with Missy unresolved. Literally forgotten, like when her parents forget to pick her up after practice or no one calls her to tell her that Mandy has gone into labor, the way Missy is neglected in the storylines is mirrored in the actor’s potential for the show, too.

Missy Needs More Screen Time

While Barber spoke to Dexerto trying to justify the overlooking of Misty, it seems more like a cop-out than a genuine answer. He calls her journey “intentional” and notes that it “plays out well for cultural expectations of the girl for the ‘overlooked girl.’” He claims that her journey will have the chance to grow on Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. But if that’s to materialize, it hasn’t happened yet.

Barber adds that knowing Missy’s history and what she has been through “gives it more gravitas, more depth, and layers to who she becomes and why.” From what fans know of Missy from her few appearances in The Big Bang Theory, the circumstances of her life may have held her back. While she might have been happy in the life she had, it appeared she was simply just going through the motions of being a mother, entry-level worker, and at one point, a wife. In the episode with Sheldon and Amy’s wedding, she mentions being happy to be separated but not happy about being pregnant again with her fourth child.

This ‘Young Sheldon’ Character Was Only Supposed to Be in 1 Episode, But Changed the Entire Franchise

‘Young Sheldon’ had storylines centered around many characters, but one in particular was actually only supposed to be in one episode.

Her relationship with Mary, who herself became much meaner and more cynical following George Sr.’s death, remained contentious. In one of her appearances on The Big Bang Theory, Mary, played by Laurie Metcalf, refers to Missy as being “dumb as soup.” It’s noted by Sheldon that she took six years to graduate high school, though this might have largely been due to her not applying herself, skipping school, and getting suspended.

Could Missy Finally Get the Story Arc She Deserves?

There’s an opportunity for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage to provide more details about this pivotal time in Missy’s life. While fans already know where she ends up, so much of her story after George’s death was left untold.

Given that Sheldon went on to win a Nobel Prize in science and Georgie became a self-made millionaire selling tires, Missy is once again fading to the background. But fans wonder if there’s potential for her yet. Penny (Kaley Cuoco) from The Big Bang Theory, after all, is very similar to Missy, which is why some viewers believe Sheldon was drawn to her and the two became so close. And she ended up finding a lucrative career and her perfect match in Leonard (Johnny Galecki). Telling Missy’s story between the time of the death of her father and the present day could help at least provide some closure.

Young Sheldon Had a Big Problem with Its Side Characters

Young Sheldon had a great cast of characters, but some side characters didn’t get the closure fans wanted to see before it ended.

Missy was one of the most entertaining, fun to watch characters on Young Sheldon. Her sassy sarcasm, even from a young age, was downright hilarious. Her handling of Sheldon, with both deep irritation and care, was sweet. When Sheldon graduated high school, and she helped him deliver a confident speech, it proves there’s so much more depth to their relationship than fans got to see on either show.

In one of adult Georgie’s appearances on The Big Bang Theory, played by Jerry O’Connell, he unloads on Sheldon about how he was left to take care of their grieving mother and rebellious sister. Fans have seen glimpses of both, but very little of Missy so far. That’s a story that needs to be told and that fans want to see.

Even though viewers know where Missy ends up, seeing her route to getting there without the distraction of college like Sheldon or a baby like Georgie is the most raw and emotional story. She may never have been as academically intelligent as Sheldon nor as crafty and charming as Georgie. But she was arguably stronger than the lot of them.

I Really Wish These TV Shows Would Make A Comeback & Continue

0

Following the confirmation of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, I am considering which other TV shows I want to see make a comeback. Several of the best TV shows of all time return to screens after being off the air for years, although some revivals are better than others. There are many titles that viewers are still desperately begging for, which proves how much demand there is for these respective TV shows.

At the same time, there are TV shows that should never be rebooted. These TV shows need to make a comeback for various reasons, whether that’s because they end on a cliffhanger or low point, or because they are so loved that audiences are keen to tune in for new episodes.

Modern Family (2009-2020)

11 Seasons

Like any sitcom, there are some amazing and less-than-great moments in Modern Family, but the fact it is so varied is what makes the show so endearing. Modern Family’s best and funniest episodes stand out because of the depiction of present-day family dynamics and hilarious slice-of-life subplots. The show wraps up with the Pritchett/Tucker/Dunphy family moving onto new stages of their respective lives, but it’s now time for Modern Family to revisit their stories.

Why Was Modern Family Canceled After Season 11?

After over a decade of success, the iconic ABC sitcom Modern Family came to an end with season 11 but it was for a good reason.

I need to know more about the characters after Modern Family’s ending: Cam and Mitchell’s new life with Lily and Rex, Phil and Claire with no kids under their roof, Joe as a teenager, and Haley’s later life as a mother to her twins. Does Luke finish college? What does Manny do with his life? Is Alex still in Switzerland, and is she still with Arvin? All of these questions and more require answers, and I really hope Modern Family will make a comeback at some point.

America Ferrera’s career is bigger than ever right now, and following her success in Barbie and Superstore in recent years, now is a good time for the actress to reprise her breakthrough character: Betty Suarez in Ugly Betty. Nowadays, an Ugly Betty revival would make more sense than ever. Fashion is always a hot topic, so that isn’t an issue, but there’s also nothing like a good underdog story. Ugly Betty finishes with the titular character taking a new job in London, where she bumps into Daniel and goes out to dinner with him.

The cast is still hoping for a reboot or movie, and have been since Ugly Betty’s season 4 cancelation in 2010, and I know myself and many other viewers feel the same.

There are loads of ways an Ugly Betty comeback can work. Whether it focuses on Betty either in London or making a return to the States, Wilhelmina still being a tyrant at Mode, or Marc being in charge, I want to see it. The cast is still hoping for a reboot or movie, and have been since Ugly Betty’s season 4 cancelation in 2010, and I know myself and many other viewers feel the same.

I love anything that is written by or stars Tina Fey, and I personally consider 30 Rock to be one of the best sitcoms of all time. The dry humor layered through the stories of those who work on The Girlie Show is astounding, and it’s so easy to invest in the various wacky characters. I want to see more of Liz Lemon as a mother, Kenneth making his way up the NBC career ladder, and Jenna in general.

Although Alec Baldwin’s acting career is rather quiet, I’d still love to see him come back as Jack Donaghy. Jack’s rapport with his mother is one of my favorite things about 30 Rock, and I think it would be great to see him and Libby have a similar dynamic in the present day. Considering Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan are reuniting for a new NBC show, I hope that it may spark a 30 Rock revival.

Good Girls (2018-2021)

4 Seasons

I am still surprised that Good Girls’ star-studded cast couldn’t save the show from cancelation. The comedy crime drama focuses on a group of suburban mothers-turned criminals, and I continue to be annoyed about Good Girls ending on a cliffhanger in season 4. Honestly, Good Girls’ finale is a bit of a disappointment, and I hope that a revival could clear up some confusion. Does Ruby actually go to Nevada? Beth becomes the new kingpin in Good Girls, but how long does it last before she is caught and her political affiliations disappear?

Most importantly, I need an update on Annie. She takes the fall for Beth and goes to prison, but is she ever redeemed? While I think it’s unlikely Good Girls would come back for a multi-season run in the future, there’s a chance it could still return for one final installment. Even if it’s just to offer audiences some closure, I really hope Good Girls will make a reappearance on audiences’ screens.

American Vandal (2017-2018)

2 Seasons

I am gutted that American Vandal still isn’t coming back for season 3, as I think the first two installments are brilliant. I love that even though American Vandal is a mockumentary and very comedy-focused, it also takes the respective investigations in each season seriously, too. Despite Netflix canceling American Vandal season 3, I remain hopeful that it will eventually come back. The reviews were solid, and many are still discovering the show today, too.

Some TV shows never got the time they deserved, being unceremoniously canceled far too soon, ending on infuriating cliffhangers & the promise of more.

Because each installment focuses on a new crime and a fresh set of suspects, it’s relatively easy for American Vandal to return. While I want to see Tyler Alvarez and Griffin Gluck reprise their roles as Peter and Sam, respectively, the show can still come back even without the main pair. I want to see more of this thrilling crime documentary with ridiculous and comical undertones, and while it seems unlikely, I continue to be optimistic.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023)

1 Season

Like many, I am frustrated with Shonda Rhimes’ lack of confirmation about Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story season 2. While I wouldn’t completely rule out the Bridgerton prequel series returning, at this time, it seems relatively unlikely. I think Queen Charlotte expands upon the Bridgerton universe beautifully. King George isn’t the most prominent figure in Bridgerton, but the prequel provides lots of important context and details about his marriage to Queen Charlotte years before the beginning of the parent show.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story season 1 works well as a standalone, but there is more of the titular character’s story to share in a possible season 2. Bridgerton establishes that Charlotte and George have 15 children across a 21-year time span, two of whom die in childhood. Although it’s a dark topic, it’s one that a potential Queen Charlotte season 2 could delve further into, especially as Charlotte only announces her second pregnancy in the last episode of season 1.

I know I’m not the only person who is desperate for Gilmore Girls to come back. At the end of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Rory tells Lorelai that she is pregnant, and she finds herself essentially in the same position as her mother upon her own conception. This huge moment, as well as several other brilliant events throughout AYITL, provides plenty of content for a Gilmore Girls comeback to cover. What is Rory like as a mother? Does Logan return, and assuming he is the father, does he know?

Lorelai and Luke’s relationship in Gilmore Girls is another thing viewers like myself are keen to get an update on. I often wonder if the pair will ever revisit their discussion about having more children, especially after they decide against it at Paris’ clinic. Even if they don’t, I still want to see more of them together, living a simple and happy life as a married couple. Stars Hollow is a cosy place, and I miss new episodes that take me back there.

Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk is one of my favorite TV characters of all time. I frequently rewatch Monk’s best episodes, and while the movie Mr. Monk and the Last Case is fantastic, it doesn’t quite scratch the itch that a proper revival of the original TV show can. Monk is lighthearted and there’s plenty of content to sink your teeth into, but there’s always room for more. One thing that always stands out to me about Monk is how it portrays the Sherlock Holmes-esque character differently to other titles.

Monk had numerous beloved and brilliant episodes over its 8 seasons. Many received critical acclaim and even earned the show several accolades.

Adrian Monk is the smartest person in the room, granted, but his phobias and afflictions with mental health provide an obstacle for him that other characters of this archetype simply don’t have. Monk is an incredible detective TV show with lots of laughs along the way, and it’s easy to binge. I’d love to see the demand for a Mr. Monk and the Last Case sequel to turn into a full-blown revival of the show instead, though.

House is an astounding 2000s TV show ready for a revival. There is a lot of discussion at the moment about Hugh Laurie returning as the titular genius doctor, and while there is yet to be an official confirmation, it seems possible that House could eventually make a comeback. In House’s finale, Gregory House fakes his own death and leaves behind his old life. But where does he go, and what happens to him next? It’s important we know about House’s fate; However, he isn’t the only character audiences need an update on.

The finale implies that a revival isn’t impossible, and I hope the recent conversation surrounding it accumulates to something.

One of Chase’s best moments in House is when he takes over as Head of Diagnostics, which he is very much deserving of. Like many, I want to know how Chase handles this role, or whether he is still in the job. House’s story of the week format, interwoven with deeply personal subplots, makes the show brilliantly rewatchable time and time again. The finale implies that a revival isn’t impossible, and I hope the recent conversation surrounding it accumulates to something.

Parks And Recreation (2009-2015)

7 Seasons

Ann Perkins actress Rashida Jones is still talking about Parks and Recreation’s revival, and has been continuously bringing it up in recent months. Parks and Recreation’s ending is one of my favorite sitcom finales ever, and while I think it’s well written, it doesn’t stop me from wanting a continuation of the show. In the current political climate, I think it will be a little difficult for Parks and Recreation to get a lot of jokes approved, but it doesn’t mean the writers shouldn’t try, either.

I am enthusiastic about seeing Leslie or Ben as President, something the Parks and Recreation finale leaves vague. Even though the last episode wraps things up tightly by using flash forwards, I still want to catch up with them in the present day. The show can easily add new details while following the original events that the finale establishes, and if anything, this could be an easy way for Parks and Recreation creator Greg Daniels to structure a revival around.

Now in its 37th year, South by Southwest, the annual arts and tech conference that runs March 7-15 in Austin, Texas, has no shortage of stellar Latin music acts on its roster.

On March 11, we at De Los will host our second annual SXSW showcase at Mala Fama. Arsenal Efectivo, Edgar Alejandro and Midnight Navy will star in the program, which you can find here.

In the meantime, below are 10 essential Latino performances we’ll be penciling into our schedule, listed in chronological order.

El Dusty
March 10 at Coconut Club
11-11:45 p.m.

Corpus Christi-based DJ and cumbia electronica pioneer El Dusty will be on the decks, melding soul, reggae and house with his homegrown Tejano groove.

He will perform a second SXSW showcase on Wednesday at Rivian Park from 3-3:40 p.m., as well as a third performance Thursday at Hotel Vegas from 12:40-1:20 a.m.

Trooko
March 11 at Coconut Club
12:45-2 a.m.

Grammy-winning Honduran producer Trooko has been credited on a number of acclaimed releases, including records by Beyoncé, M.I.A., Residente and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “The Hamilton Mixtape.” Yet this year, Trooko will go back to his roots by spinning at La Subcultura’s epic club night.

Vanessa Zamora
March 11 at Flamingo Cantina
10-10:40 p.m.

The daughter of Mexican pianists, bilingual indie darling Vanessa Zamora upped the ante by mastering the acoustic guitar, keyboard and drums to craft her own dreamy, psychedelic approach to pop music.

She will perform a second show March 14 at Vaquero Taquero from 10-10:40pm.

Blood Club
March 12 at Elysium
8-8:40 p.m.

Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, the post-punk romantics will usher in the moonrise at SXSW on multiple nights. Their festival dates are a preview of their North American No Llores Tour, which will see the band passing through the U.S. and Mexico before landing at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles on May 18.

Their second official SXSW showcase will take place March 15 at Las Perlas from 10-10:40 p.m.

Gale
March 13 at the Moody Theater
7:45 p.m.-8:15 p.m.

The Latin Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Gale (pronounced “gah-leh”) packs a punch in her indie-tinged pop music. Lauded as the “Latin It Girl” by Rolling Stone, the Puerto Rican starlet will grace the stage at its “Future of Music” showcase.

Valé
March 13 at Cuatro Gato
8:20-9 p.m.

Si necesitas reggaetón: Valé. The Baranquilla native brings punk baddie energy to her perreo- and R&B-infused dance tracks like “Fit Mami” and the newer “Arrebatao.”

Twin Shadow
March 13 at Coconut Club
9:30-10:30 p.m.

The Dominican American synth-pop hero will tease new songs from his sixth studio album, “Georgie,” a tribute to his late father. After years of cutting up dance floors with guitar tracks like “Five Seconds” and “Saturdays” (with Haim!), “Georgie “ will be his first album sans drums. Get into it.

He will also perform a second show March 14 at Central Presbyterian Church from 10-11 p.m.

Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso
March 13 at the Moody Theater
9:35-10:20 p.m.

Quirky Argentine MCs Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso enjoyed a career breakthrough last year with their appearance on NPR’s “Tiny Desk” series, which became the No. 1 most-watched episode of 2024. “With ‘Tiny Desk,’ we feel that we hacked the system,” said Amoroso in an interview with De Los this week. At SXSW, they’ll serve an encore.

Oya Baby
March 13 at the Speakeasy Kabaret
10:50-11:05 p.m.

The audacious Cuban MC Oya Baby cut her teeth as a backup dancer for Pitbull, Bad Bunny and Flo Rida before she signed a record deal with the latter’s International Music Group label. She shared an electric collaboration with Miami hip-hop legend Trina in her 2022 single “Ride the Stick” and bounced back in January with a swaggering reggaeton single, “Perra.”

Ivan Cornejo
March 13 at the Moody Theater
10:55 p.m.midnight

Música Mexicana’s prince of darkness will command the Moody Theater on Thursday night with releases from his outstanding 2024 LP “Mirada,” as well as his first hit, “Está Dañada,” which debuted on the Billboard 100 when he was just 17.
