Apple appeals UK encryption backdoor demand – Computerworld

0

Let’s say that Apple lets the order stand and simply opts out of the UK market, which is essentially what it has already done, he said. That could encourage other governments, especially those in France, Australia, and Canada, to try the same tactic.

“If that happens, then the [UK] government has set a precedent,” Chagnon said. But if Apple succeeds in this appeal, which was reported in various media including The Financial Times, “then Apple will have turned the tables and set their own precedent. It would be saying ‘No, China, no, Germany, no, France, you can’t have a backdoor.’”

Nikolas Guggenberger, an assistant law professor at the University of Houston Law Center, said the risk of a domino effect is particularly strong in Europe right now.

Utah is poised to pass an age verification law for app stores

0

Utah has once again passed that attempts to place new limits on children’s ability to access social media and other apps. The state legislature passed a bill that requires app store makers to verify the ages of users and get parental consent for the downloading of apps. Should the governor sign the bill into law, it would be (as The Verge ) the first such measure in the country.

The Beehive State has previously attempted to restrict how children can use social media. The state passed two laws that imposed age verification and parental permission requirements onto social media companies. Those laws were later amid legal challenges, and a Utah judge them from taking effect last fall.

The “App Store Accountability Act” takes a different approach. It puts the burden on app stores (namely, Apple and Google) to conduct age verification and parental permission rather than individual social media platforms. Unsurprisingly, Meta and other social media companies have the app store-centric approach to .

On Wednesday, Meta, Snap and X issued a rare praising the Utah measure. “Parents want a one-stop shop to verify their child’s age and grant permission for them to download apps in a privacy-preserving way,” the companies said. “The app store is the best place for it, and more than a quarter of states have introduced bills recognizing the central role app stores play. We applaud Utah for putting parents in charge with its landmark legislation and urge Congress to follow suit.”

Apple and Google so far haven’t publicly weighed in on Utah’s bill, though we’ve reached out to both for comment.

Given the controversy surrounding previous attempts to impose age verification requirements on platforms, the Utah bill will likely face legal challenges if and when it’s signed into law. Even so, other states are likely to follow Utah’s lead on this issue. At least are considering similar measures.

Melania Knauss Trump, the First Lady of the United States, has captured public attention not only for her role in the White House during both of Donald Trump‘s presidential terms but also for her career as a former model. While much is known about her time in the public eye, her family background has sparked significant curiosity.

Find out more about Melania’s background, her family, and her relationship with Donald below.

Where Is Melania Trump From?

Melania, originally named Melanija Knavs, was born on April 26, 1970, in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. She is the first First Lady of the United States to be a naturalized citizen.

Who Are Melania Trump’s Parents?

Melania’s parents are Viktor and Amalija Knavs. Her father is currently 80 years old, while her mother passed away in January 2024 at the age of 78 following a battle with an undisclosed illness.

Melania, who has an older sister, Ines, born in 1968, and a half-brother, Denis Cigelnjak, from her father’s previous relationship (whom he does not acknowledge, according to GQ), has spoken highly of her parents and her upbringing on several occasions, including during the 2016 Republican National Convention.

“I was born in Slovenia, a small, beautiful and then-Communist country in Central Europe. My sister Ines, who is an incredible woman and a friend, and I were raised by my wonderful parents. My elegant and hard-working mother Amalija introduced me to fashion and beauty. My father Viktor instilled in me a passion for business and travel.”

Viktor worked as a chauffeur, as reported by The New York Times, before becoming a traveling car salesman for a state-owned car company. He later opened his own bicycle and car parts shop in Ljubljana, as noted by GQ. Amalija worked as a patternmaker at the state textile factory, Jutranjka, from 1964 until her retirement in 1997, according to The New Yorker.

In 2018, Melania’s parents became U.S. citizens, and they spent time living with her in New York, Washington D.C., and Florida.

How Long Have Melania and Donald Trump Been Married?

Melania, 54, married Donald, 78, on January 22, 2005, meaning they have now been married for 20 years.

Their journey began in 1998 when Paolo Zampolli, a former modeling agent, hosted a New York Fashion Week party that both Melania, then known as Melania Knauss, and Donald attended. They soon began dating, and in 2004, Donald proposed to Melania at the Met Gala. The following year, they married in a ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida, with the celebration continuing at a reception held at Donald’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

How Many Kids Does Melania Trump Have?

Melania and Donald have one child together, a son named Barron Trump, whom they welcomed on March 20, 2006. However, Donald has four other children—Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, and Tiffany—from his previous marriages to Ivana Trump and Marla Maples.

After Melania’s marriage to Donald and the birth of their son, her parents, Viktor and Amalija, permanently moved to the United States.

African island smaller than a football pitch is one of the most crowde | Africa | Travel

0

Located on Lake Victoria in Africa, Migingo Island was previously the subject of a low-level territorial dispute between Kenya and Uganda. The conflict over Migingo Island has been referred to as the world’s “smallest war” due to the island’s tiny size and the dispute’s lack of intensity.

The small plot of land – about half an acre – is prized as a base because it is situated within a rich fishing ground. The lucrative Nile Perch trade – which has seen prices paid of more than $300 a kilogram on the global market – has turned the island into a hotbed of activity. This has led to concerns about overfishing on the world’s largest tropical lake.

It is now home to a fluctuating population of around 500 people and features a maze of corrugated structures scattered across it. The makeshift buildings have created a series of small alleyways and thoroughfares on a patch of land that can be successfully navigated on foot in less than ten minutes.

The island, which is surrounded by boats, is also home to a hair salon, bars and several brothels, reports The Mirror. Migingo is so small that it is not disclosed on many maps. It has previously been reported that the island was underwater until the 1990s but this has been disputed. Many fishermen on Migingo prefer to fish at night because activity on the lake at this time is far less crowded than during the daytime.

The island is around 2,000 square metres in size and has a population density of around 250,000 people per square kilometre. By comparison, Hong Kong has a population density of around 7,400 people, though some areas of Hong Kong have a far higher population density. The majority of people living on Migingo are Kenyan but it also contains a sizable Ugandan population of around 20%.

Migingo is actually one of three small islands situated near each other. The much larger Usingo Island is 200 metres to the east and the largest of the three, Pyramid Island, is two kilometres south of Migingo and 11 kilometres north of the Tanzanian border in Lake Victoria.

Life on the cramped space is believed to be difficult with limited sanitation facilities available on the rocky outcrop. The lack of running water and harsh living conditions on the tiny island has drawn comparisons with Kibera, a Kenyan slum regarded as one of the largest in Africa.

It has also been reported that pirates are a constant thorn in the side of the island’s inhabitants- they steal fish, cash and boat engines from the fishermen.

The island does not have a permanent, conventional police presence and instead relies on a community-based justice system. It has been said that some residents have resorted to paying “protection taxes” to maritime police to halt or discourage the pirate activity affecting Migingo.

Many of the fishermen on the island don’t own the boats they operate and instead pay a hefty fee to the owners who are mainly located on the mainland. Reports state the fees can be up to 80% of the catch the fishermen haul in from the lake making it a tough existence for the workers.

Born Again’ Ensures We Won’t See This Character Any Time Soon

0

Lifelong fans of Marvel Comics, the ones who were there long before the MCU was even a concept, know all too well that we’ve only really scratched the surface of what is to come. It seems like only yesterday we were singing the praises of the first Iron Man film, and today, we’re already well into phase five and well on our way to phase six. For lifelong Marvel fans, that means finally seeing more of their favorite heroes making their full-blooded introductions to the larger MCU world, even if they’ve already been a part of it.

With the first MCU Fantastic Four film still well underway, despite delays, many fans are now turning their attention to Daredevil: Born Again. Set to follow the first series, this one is reportedly going to be even darker and grittier. However, as excited as most fans are to see this iconic character take another step toward future integrations into the next batch of Avengers, the show also caused another popular character’s upcoming MCU movie debut to be indefinitely postponed.

According to Marvel, Daredevil: Born Again and other shows like it have forced them to rearrange the schedule they initially had planned for characters like the very popular space warrior, Nova. Here’s a look at why Nova, among others, will now have to wait for their introduction to the MCU.

The MCU Was Beginning to Fly Too Close to the Sun

Daredevil: Born Again

Release Date

March 4, 2025

Franchise(s)

Daredevil, Marvel Cinematic Universe

For some time now, Marvel has sought to integrate high-quality TV series into their MCU offerings. The idea is to tie all of this into the larger MCU without relying on theatrical releases alone. For the most part, they have been able to admirably accomplish this. Shows like Loki, WandaVision, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have been used wonderfully as precursors to set up larger storylines and angles covered by the films that followed them. They have also been a great way to introduce new characters to the MCU and, in some cases, were successful in creating cult followings for them that led to larger projects in the making.

Long-Awaited MCU Series Finally Gets Some Good News

Marvel’s stalled ‘Nova’ series gets a promising update at last.

However, what these series also did was saturate the MCU with too much content to follow. This leaves the average viewer needing to dedicate days and weeks of their lives just to stay abreast of all the new developments and interconnected stories. At the same time, in order to make sure these series pack the same action-packed, CGI-heavy thrills as the films, they require massive budgets and are very expensive to make and choreograph. The time, cost, and logistics of intertwining so many shows and movies has been a massive and exorbitantly expensive enterprise.

By the time the release of Daredevil: Born Again came around, Marvel had some serious thinking to do about how best to roll out the next batch of heroes and their stories. Unfortunately, for characters like Nova, that means having to wait even longer to join the party.

What ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Means for Other MCU Shows

The idea of Nova joining the MCU had already been announced just under a year ago now. His MCU debut was envisioned to show up in his own show or as a standalone film. Frankly, either would likely have been great. More recently. However, the Nova idea began to solidify, and it was heading toward being among a range of shows Marvel was planning to bolster its Disney+ MCU offerings. Others, like Strange Academy and even a Terror Inc. show, were also discussed.

‘Daredevil’ Fan-Favorite Confirms Their Return in ‘Born Again’ Season 2

One member of Nelson Murdock & Page is set to return for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2.

However, with Born Again giving Daredevil a second wind and the likes of other major releases like Fantastic Four, Blade, and others still to come, Marvel has decided to pause its more expensive shows. As Nova is an intergalactic traveler, it’s hard to imagine a show about him that does not require a bunch of expensive SFX and VFX features to be plausible. The decision certainly makes sense from that POV. However, it’s unfortunate because Nova is such a cool character!

What Makes Nova So Cool as a Marvel Character?

Also known as Richard Rider, Nova is a character who has held some prominence in Marvel comic books since the ’70s. He was chosen at random by the Xandarian known as Rhomann Dey when he was dying. Bestowed with the powers of the Nova Corps, he inherited abilities of super strength, flight, and robust durability. If that’s not enough, he also has a healing factor. And if you’re wondering why “Xandarian” sounds familiar, that’s because the planet Xandar played a prominent role in the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Nova is an inherently cool character and has built quite a fan following for himself over the decades. According to Nerdist, who make a great case for why Nova’s MCU introduction should be a movie, the rumored plot of his debut sounds downright tantalizing:

“The rumored vibe was “Top Gun in space,” and John C. Reilly and Glenn Close would likely have returned to their roles as Nova Corps elite. John C. Reilly’s Nova Centurion Rhomann Dey was the character in the comics who passed on the Nova title to Richard Rider. Together the Nova Corps would have to face the threat of Annihilus and his Annihilation Wave from the Negative Zone. Annihilus is one of the last, great Marvel Comics villains still awaiting a live-action debut.”

There’s no telling at this point how long we’ll have to wait to see Nova in the MCU. However, if all the rumors about Marvel’s plans for the character are to be believed, it will be worth the wait and then some! Until then, we still have the likes of Daredevil: Born Again to hold us over. Daredevil: Born Again is streaming now on Disney+.

Pierce Brosnan Addresses Potential James Bond Return

0

Former James Bond

actor Pierce Brosnan addresses whether he would be interested in returning to the franchise. Making his debut as the iconic British superspy in 1995’s GoldenEye, Brosnan played 007 for four films in total, including Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002). Daniel Craig replaced Brosnan with Casino Royale in 2006 before himself departing the franchise with 2021’s No Time To Die. Following Amazon’s takeover of the franchise, James Bond 26 is confirmed, and some have called for Brosnan to reprise his role.

In a recent interview with GQ, Brosnan is asked if he’s aware of the calls for him to return as an older Bond and whether he would actually be open it. While Brosnan, 71, admits that he’s “interested” in a franchise return, he does say that he thinks it may be best to let someone new take over. Check out his comment below:

I’ve heard of that. Of course, how could I not be interested? But it’s a delicate situation now. I think it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie, really. I think so. It’s a rather romantic notion and idea, but I think everything changes, everything falls apart. I think that it’s best left to another man, really. Fresh blood.

What Brosnan’s 007 Interest Means For James Bond 26

Amazon’s 007 Takeover Explained

Amazon acquired Bond distributor MGM in 2022, and it was confirmed last month that longtime franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have now handed over total creative control to the company. It’s been 4 years since No Time To Die, and reports have suggested that Broccoli and Wilson made no meaningful progress on a new film, apparently unsure of where to take the character next. Amazon, however, once the deal passes regulatory approval later this year, is sure to move quickly to get another Bond movie off the ground, and that will mean casting a new actor.

Pierce Brosnan’s Biggest 007 Change Makes A James Bond 26 Casting Even More Important

The Bronsan era of the James Bond franchise made a major change to one character, meaning Bond 26 must now find the perfect person to play them.

Considering Amazon will probably want the next Bond to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, it’s unclear whether Brosnan could return. Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, after all, just recently put a poll up on X asking who fans want as the new 007, and Henry Cavill was one of the most popular choices. That being said, since Amazon surely wants to create a Bond cinematic universe of sorts with spinoffs and TV shows, it’s certainly conceivable that Brosnan could appear in a one-off project as an older 007.

Cavill was once in the running to star in Casino Royale, but he lost out on the role because he was deemed too young.

Who Will Be The Next James Bond?

Amazon Could Abandon A Traditional Franchise Casting Strategy

Traditionally, new Bonds have been actors who aren’t already major movie stars. Craig, for example, was probably best known for Layer Cake (2004) prior to Casino Royale, but he had also had supporting roles in movies like Road to Perdition (2002) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001). Before becoming 007 with GoldenEye, Brosnan was also by no means a big-name star, and had appeared in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Live Wire (1992), and TV movies like Don’t Talk to Strangers (1994) and Detonator (1993).

James Bond Actors

Actor

Tenure

Sean Connery

1962 – 1967, 1971, 1983

George Lazenby

1969

Roger Moore

1973 – 1985

Timothy Dalton

1987 – 1989

Pierce Brosnan

1995 – 2002

Daniel Craig

2006 – 2021

Cavill has long been a popular Bond fancast, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson emerged as front runner not long after the No Time To Die ending. Other names seemingly in contention were James Norton, Josh O’Connor, and Regé-Jean Page. Though Broccoli and Wilson reportedly did meet with several actors about the role, none were close to actually being cast. With Amazon now in charge, it’s possible that the company will abandon the Broccoli strategy of choosing actors who aren’t yet quite famous, instead opting for a recognizable face and name to make Bond 26 as big and as flashy as possible.

With the franchise now sure to expand beyond just one movie every few years, it’s possible that there could be more than one Bond actor at a time.

Amazon now being in charge also raises a new possibility that was never on the table before. With the franchise now sure to expand beyond just one movie every few years, it’s possible that there could be more than one Bond actor at a time. In the same way that the company could make a one-off older Bond film with Brosnan, they could also make a 007 origin story movie or series, casting a teen actor in the role. There is already a successful Young Bond novel series, after all.

Our Take On Brosnan’s Potential Bond Return

Where The Franchise Should Go Next

Pierce Brosnan holds up a pen as James Bond in GoldenEye

As with essentially all iterations of 007, Brosnan’s run had its ups and downs, with GoldenEye generally considered a highlight and Die Another Day sending him out on a bit of a sour note. That being said, he was generally well-liked as 007 and, even in his 70s, he certainly looks like he could pull the part off. Though many are sure to be skeptical of Amazon’s Bond takeover (for good reason), it does open the door for an array of 007 projects that would have never before been possible, and a one-off older Bond movie could certainly work.

That being said, as Brosnan himself suggests, Amazon arguably needs to bring in some new blood and really nail Bond 26. This would help to usher in a new era for the franchise, and hopefully one that appeals to new fans, too, instead of just those who were around during the Brosnan era. It remains to be seen whether Brosnan will ever actually return as James Bond, but it’s certainly an interesting possibility.

Daddy Yankee sues his ex-wife for $250 million in business lawsuit

0

Daddy Yankee is trying to take his ex-wife Mireddys González to court again, but this time for business reasons.

According to court documents reviewed by The Times, the reggaetonero — whose legal name is Ramón L. Ayala Rodríguez — filed a lawsuit earlier this week in a Puerto Rican court alleging breaches of fiduciary duties and of contract, as well as damages against González and her sister, Ayeicha González Castellanos.

The lawsuit claims that the sisters obtained $100 million from the corporate bank accounts of two of Yankee’s businesses, Los Cangris Inc. and El Cartel Records, in what is perceived as an attempt to liquidate assets before being forced to hand them over by a court order.

It also alleged that the pair hid information and destroyed important emails in December that pertained to the two companies’ business activities, right before they were removed from their association with said companies.

“Mireddys and Ayeicha Gonzalez Castellanos proceeded to concentrate in themselves a greater power than authorized and, together, made negligent and selfish decisions that were detrimental to both the companies and [Yankee] in his personal capacity and as an artist,” the lawsuit claims. “[T]hey did not give an accurate account of their actions, disregarded formalities and requirements of corporate legislation, made financially irresponsible decisions, negligently managed accounting and wrongfully alienated Mr. Ayala Rodriguez from decision-making.”

Additionally, Yankee’s lawyers allege that González gave unauthorized power of attorney to Puerto Rican music producer Rafael “Raphy” Pina to oversee the sale of Yankee’s music catalog. They also claimed that the sisters gave Pina and his Mr. Soldout company the authority to pay themselves $27 million for the cost of Yankee’s La Última Vuelta concert tour, with Pina receiving a 30% cut of the income (despite his being incarcerated at the time).

“This lack of diligence and administrative imprudence on the part of [the sisters] cost [Yankee] millions of dollars,” the court documents says.

Per the lawsuit, Yankee’s team is requesting at least $250 million in compensation.

The “Gasolina” rapper, who retired from performing in 2023 to rededicate his life to his Christian faith, announced his split from González in a December Instagram story.

“After more than two decades of marriage and after many months of trying to save my marriage, which my wife and I share, today my lawyers responded to the divorce petition received from Mireddys,” Yankee wrote in Spanish. He added that he respects González’s decision and that their family remains their priority. The rapper has three grown children, two of whom he shares with González.

“This is not an easy time, but I understand that it is part of my life process,” he added, noting that it was time to “accept and continue.”

Yankee said his Instagram post would be the only statement he would make about his divorce.

“My client holds deep respect for Mireddys González and is therefore prioritizing the preservation and protection of their privacy regarding their marriage and the personal matters that only they fully understand,” his attorney told Rolling Stone in December. “For a long time, my client made unsuccessful efforts to reconcile their differences.”

The Hole frontwoman performed the iconic 1965 track at the Royal Geographical Society on Tuesday (March 4) while appearing in conversation with actor-writer Todd Almond. The event celebrated Almond’s new oral history collection Slow Train Coming: Bob Dylan’s ‘Girl From the North Country’ and Broadway’s Rebirth.

Following their discussion, Love stepped onto the stage alongside an acoustic guitarist, delivering a raw and impassioned rendition of the classic song, with Almond providing backing vocals.

The performance took place nearly 60 years after Dylan famously played “Like a Rolling Stone” at the Royal Albert Hall, just next door to the event venue.

During the evening, Love also addressed longstanding speculation about a Hole reunion—shutting down rumors once again. Despite previously hinting in early 2024 that the band might reunite, she reiterated that there are no current plans to bring the group back together.

Love’s choice of cover continues a recent trend of unexpected performances. In February, she appeared onstage alongside Green Day frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, who was performing at the U.K. venue The Garage with his side-project covers band, The Coverups.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Courtney Love,” Armstrong said halfway through the show according to fan video of the moment the singer unexpectedly took the stage. “Thank you, Billie Joe. My name is Courtney Love – you may not remember me. I’ve been living in a cave in Birmingham for about nine years. We’ll give this a f–king try, right?”

Love then crashed through revved-up takes on Cheap Trick’s 1977 power pop classic “He’s a Whore” and the 1979 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers tune “Even the Losers” and, according to NME, came back for an encore of Cheap Trick’s iconic “Surrender.”

In 2021, she also surprised fans with a rendition of Britney Spears’ “Lucky,” and in 2017, she took on Selena Gomez’s “Hands to Myself.”

Love’s surprise cover comes as Dylan remains a focal point of discussion in music and film circles. The legendary singer-songwriter was recently reported to have declined an invitation to perform and present at the 2025 Oscars. His biopic A Complete Unknown received eight nominations but did not secure any wins.

Shawn Hatosy Talks Reid vs Voight, Reid’s Mother, More

0

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 15 “Greater Good.”]

Sergeant Voight (Jason Beghe) and Deputy Chief Reid (Shawn Hatosy) have very different perspectives when it comes to what should be done for the “greater good” in the latest Chicago P.D. episode.

For this week’s case, Reid calls in favors to secure a warrant and to get a member of a gang to give up another’s location (that person was their killer). But, as Voight realizes, that happens when Kaiden’s “lawyer” tells him that his sister’s dead — and he’s next if he doesn’t talk. The sergeant also realizes that Reid had Intelligence assigned to Lawndale as part of his Violent Reduction Initiative to pave the way for a dealer, Otero, to take over; he has him in his pocket, too. As Reid sees it, Otero doesn’t drop bodies, so it’s better to have him in charge in the area. An innocent was killed (the gang member’s sister), but as Reid sees it, it’s simple math: one for the many, for the greater good. And since he and Voight are the same, in his mind, the guilt he’s feeling is just a flicker of fog over his true self, says Reid.

Below, Hatosy breaks down where Reid and Voight stand after that tense conversation and teases what’s ahead.

Voight calls Reid out on what he did to get Kaiden to talk and that lawyer and his sister’s death. How does Reid feel about that? Does he respect that Voight goes after him like that and calls him out?

Shawn Hatosy: It’s so funny because when we filmed it, the last take we did, it was charged. And I haven’t seen the episode, but I imagine it ended up in there, and Jason looked at me and was like, “Yeah, I don’t know. Is it too charged?” I said, “I think so. You called me out.” And he said, “I didn’t call you out.” And I said, “But you did. You know what I mean? You did, and you should.” It’s just an interesting thing to see two people who are so similar kind of navigate in this world. I think for Voight to see somebody in a position of power above him now who operates the way that he does, it is going to present him with the question of, how am I going to police going forward? It presents a pretty good ethical question that he has to face. He’s kind of looking in the mirror, and he has to determine who he is going forward. It’s going to shape his legacy. We know what he’s done in the past. We know how he’s operated. So now what’s it going to look like for the future?

Lori Allen/NBC

It feels like Reid doesn’t seem worried, presumably because of what he has on Intelligence about Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) and the informant and the cover-up. We know how he worked in Detroit. But he has to know that Intelligence is kind of a different level than others that he’s dealt with. Is Reid concerned that they’ll come after him?

I think he has to be, and I think it would be foolish of him to try to use leverage on a team and then not expect any kind of blowback. He’s a smart guy, so I think he’s prepared. I hope so. He would be a silly bad guy if all of a sudden he just sort of wasn’t expecting what was coming, especially given what we know about Voight. So I think he’ll be a formidable opponent.

So he has some things in place that we haven’t seen yet?

Yes.

Do you think he might regret not letting Burgess (Marina Squerciati) transfer briefly because then that would’ve been them without one member of the team? He’s the one who kept her in Intelligence.

I think that that was a decision made because she’s somebody who is ultimately quite pure. I think it’s just how he operates. It’s like, this is a card I’m going to deal here, and maybe I will use it later. It really depends on how she reacts to i,t and something tells me that she’s not somebody that’s going to be easy to manipulate, but I hope we use that going forward.

At the end of the episode, we see that Voight and Chapman (Sara Bues) are looking to bring Reid down. What can you tease about how Reid might react when he finds out? Because now there’s an ASA involved.

Yeah. Going forward, there’s another instance where something where Reid needs Voight to do something. He asks him to, “Let’s use this friendship again to do something that I need.” And it doesn’t really go the way Reid needs to go at the speed that Reid needs to go, and it’s sort of in protecting this Otero in Lawndale, which Voight hates. So because Voight isn’t operating the way that Reid needs to, he goes around him, and he goes to Torres, and that is a line that Reid is willing to cross. It sets up a very nice scene between Hank and Reid where Hank is like, “Don’t go around my back and talk to my team.” And Reid is like, “Yo, this is my team. I’m your boss. You guys work for me.” Which I love. I just think it’s just such a fantastic thing for Voight to have to deal with because he’s, you know what I mean? I think the fans will hate Reid for that, which I’m all for. So it’s heading in a very disastrous direction for this friendship.

Though Reid is corrupt, he is still the boss of Voight. You can’t ignore that.

You can’t ignore that. And he also has dirt. He has this dirt that he can sort of end them all at any moment, which is fantastic, I think. So how will they stop this tyrant? I don’t know. We’ll find out.

Reid has that moment when he opens up to Voight about his mother’s horrific, violent death, and it’s heartbreaking and has to be the truth because I don’t think anyone would lie about that. But without that part of his past, do you think Reid would still be the same kind of cop he is today?

I don’t think he would — I think that shaped his decision to become a cop. I don’t even know if he would’ve been a cop had that not happened. And I believe it to be honest. I think that this happened, and it was tragic and horrible,e and it made him do what he did and promote the way he promoted. And I think policing is a difficult job, and sometimes you need a warrant. So I think that it sort of helped him become who he is, and that’s kind of like his DNA.

Jason said that Voight is looking into a mirror when he looks at Reid, and we’re seeing how Voight has changed from the beginning over the years. Might the same be true for Reid? Could Reid change because of what he’s seeing in Voight?

That would be fun. I think so. I think maybe it is an opportunity to change his ethical and moral legacy. It certainly would be beneficial to his future on Chicago P.D. [Laughs] Because who knows if we could survive like this. Probably not. I don’t see how their relationship can go anywhere with Reid using this leverage or this friendship and the way that he has. And Hank is also very frustrated in Reid’s lack of transparency. He likes to be told what’s going on. He doesn’t like to be lied to. Nor should anybody. So I believe you’re right, yeah, that would definitely need to happen for Reid to continue.

Are you going to see anything with Reid’s personal life?

Not to my knowledge, no. I haven’t seen anything like that coming down the pipe.
