The director behind one of the best Netflix
action movies from last year, Timo Tjahjanto
, has now teased plans for a sequel. Released back in October, The Shadow Strays
follows a 17-year-old assassin who finds herself up against her mysterious handlers after they kidnap an 11-year-old boy. The action thriller was a major hit for the streamer, and while The Shadow Strays 2 has yet to be announced, Tjahjanto has now teased big plans for what’s to come (should he be given the opportunity).
Taking to X/Twitter, Tjahjanto, who’s next project is the highly anticipated action sequel Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk, revealed that he is now working on another Hollywood movie, but hopes to make sequels to not one, but two of his Netflix action outings in the near future.
“Doing another Holywood [sic] project this year, but I promised myself after that its gonna be either The Big 4 or The Shadow Strays sequel. Amirite @NetflixID
As for The Shadow Strays, damn, do I have plans. Shinobi type of plans.”
Timo Tjahjanto Wants To Make a Sequel to His Other Netflix Action Hit Too
Not only is Timo Tjahjanto now planning The Shadow Strays 2, he is also hoping to return for another Big 4 outing. Lesser-known than the epic story of Codename 13 and her vendetta from last, The Big 4 was released back in 2022, with the action comedy following four retired assassins who spring back into action. If you haven’t already seen it, The Big 4 is well worth checking out, and boasts a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Check out what Tjahjanto had to says about The Big 4 sequel below…
“The Big 4 remains my passion project, its more than a job, its family in the making, and it does brilliant for my mental health to do something that remains goofy and hopeful. Its the only film I made where Solitude is replaced with warmth & commaderie.”

Netflix Just Introduced a Brand-New Action Star, and Everyone Needs to Know About Her
The Shadow Strays, Netflix’s new crime thriller, introduces audiences to a new action star: Aurora Ribero.
Written and directed by Timo Tjahjanto, The Shadow Strays is led by Aurora Ribero as the assassin known as 13, with the rest of the cast comprised of Hana Malasan as Umbra, a veteran assassin and 13’s mentor, Ali Fikry as Monji, a young boy who sets 13 on her mission for revenge, Adipati Dolken as the villainous Prasetyo, and Andri Mashadi as Ariel, a sadistic crime boss. You can check out the official synopsis below.
“Codename 13, a 17-year-old trained assassin is under suspension because of a sloppy mission in Japan. The girl built a conscience when she met Monji, an 11-year-old boy who lost his mother to a crime syndicate. When Monji is captured, 13 is hellbent on setting a path of destruction to rescue the boy, including going against her mentor and the organization who hires her, the Shadow.”
While nothing has been greenlit, this is not the first time that Tjahjanto has revealed his plans for a Shadow Strays sequel, with the filmmaker revealing that he is “designed the story to be a 2 parter” and is eager to return to the violent world of the young assassin and the clandestine organization known as the Shadow. “We learn so little about who these Shadows are,” he said. “We learn so little about the background of the organization. Like, what drives them? And we kind of teased that a little bit in the [first film’s] ending. So, hopefully, the interest is big enough. I am very keen to make a sequel to this film.”
