All-action Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight fighter Drew Dober kicks off his 2025 campaign against Mexican prospect Manuel Torres in the co-main event of UFC Mexico this Sat., March 29, from Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.
Dober enters the bout in an unusual spot, having dropped three of his last four fights—two by stoppage. Yet, he remains upbeat and determined to sharpen his skills.
“I’m fighting monsters, so you have to take that into account,” Dober told reporters during UFC Mexico media day (watch here). “I think I just get hit too much in fights, so we worked diligently on—I’m going to be entertaining and have fun, but the purpose is going to be more fine-tuned.”
“I’m going to be a little more polished, and I have to bring in more fight IQ,” Dober added. “We’ve been working on head movement, footwork, and changing my direction up—maybe wrestling more. The goal is just to get hit less.”
The former Top-15 contender was asked where he sees himself in the always-stacked and notoriously tough Lightweight division.
“So, I’m like the diet Justin Gaethje,” Dober said. “He’s up [at the top of the division] fighting all of those guys, and I’m down here fighting all these guys. I just love being a part of the Lightweight division, which is a murderer’s row.
“I really enjoy fighting these prospects because they are coming in hungry, trying to prove themselves,” Dober concluded. “Like I said earlier, I’m here just enjoying the quality of fights when I’m in there.”
Indeed, Dober is facing another hungry young prospect (like he did in his last outing against Jean Silva) and hopes to send “Loco” packing with his second straight loss.
