Gervonta Davis’ hairstylist is not happy about being blamed for the boxer taking a knee in his fight against Lamont Roach Jr.
“Tank” held onto his WBA lightweight title by the skin of his teeth, going to a majority draw against Roach. The scores would have been a majority decision for “The Reaper” had the referee taken a point when Davis dropped to a knee in the 9th round. The reason? Davis said his eye was burning from hair product.
“I just got my hair done two days ago, and she put grease in my s—t,” Davis said during his post-fight interview. “The s—t was like, you know when you’re sweating and things like that and the grease came in my face and it burnt my eyes.”
Fans quickly tracked down the stylist that did Davis’ hair, Lee The Brand. And after what we assume was a bunch of not-so-kind comments, she fired back on social media regarding the situation.
“I did his hair WEDNESDAY, It’s SATURDAY!” she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. “He did press, gym and weigh in. That’s no excuse, how much grease did I use damn.”
“Is the grease in the room with us?” she added in another post.
Lee shared a picture of the Conditioning Shine product she used, and the label says ‘No wax, no grease, no alcohol, no flaking.’ That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t potentially burn if some managed to get in “Tank’s” eye, but as she mentioned … it had been three days.
This isn’t the first time hair product has played a role in recent boxing news. Amanda Serrano was forced to pull out of a March 2024 bout after a dye job led to product burning her eye.
