Good news! Justin Gaethje has just shared more details about the foot injuries he suffered against Rafael Fiziev at UFC 313. They won’t stop him from being able to turn around and compete for a title, if that’s what the UFC has in store for him. The injuries are just gross. Very, very gross.
Gaethje stressed fans out following his unanimous decision win against Fiziev, posting a video to his YouTube where he declared “My toes are f—ed.”
No further elaboration. Just that his toes were f—ed. Dislocated? Broken? What!?!
“The Highlight” shared exactly what he meant in an Instagram Story, but we advise you not to look any further if you’re eating.
“They already showed you my feet on television, so here they are one week after the fight,” Gaethje wrote over pictures of his horribly skinned toes. “This is from dragging my feet on the canvas when I throw punches. You do not want to be an Ultimate Fighter.”
Lest you think this is a problem only Justin Gaethje has, Michael Chiesa chimed in on that particular kind of injury.
“Canvas burns are the worst,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “You can’t wear socks, it hurts to shower, you can’t sleep with your sheets touching them or else the burns scab to your sheets. Not fun.”
As painful as it sounds, it’s nothing that will keep Gaethje from fighting again later this year. The only problem now? The strange logjam that has developed at 155 pounds. Champion Islam Makhachev has a lot of options right now: There’s Justin, but there’s also Charles Oliveira, and then there’s Ilia Topuria. There’s also the possibility of moving up to 170 pounds.
Until the champ decides what he’s gonna do, Gaethje will be on the sidelines with nothing to do but nurse his toe burns and play golf.
