Robert Whittaker not interested in ‘pub’ fighter like Roman Dolidze, eyes Sean Strickland for UFC 317

Former UFC middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker, caught some of the UFC Vegas 104 main event between Roman Dolidze and Marvin Vettori last weekend at APEX, a rematch from their UFC 286 showdown roughly two years back in London.

Dolidze avenged his loss by way of unanimous decision, but the disinterested “Reaper” didn’t stick around for all five frames.

“I actually watched that fight — I watched a round-and-a-half and was like, ‘Dude, I have nothing to gain from this,’ and I went back to Monster Hunter Wilds,” Whittaker said on YouTube. “It was just like the exact same as their first fight, like they’re still at the same pub. They’re just like, ‘Ah, it’s you.’ And then they just started punching on again. It’s the exact same thing. I reckon they should run it back to break the trilogy, to get some closure on whatever reason they’re having a brawl.”

Dolidze used the victory (his third straight) to call for bouts against Whittaker and Israel Adesanya, but “The Reaper” — looking to rebound from this crushing loss — is more interested in fighting former middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, as part of the UFC 317 pay-per-view (PPV) in June.

“I’m trying to fight a Top 5 guy,” Whittaker said. “Join the queue. I want to fight Sean, International Fight Week.”

Strickland has yet to respond.
