Spotify has just published the newest episode of its series entitled Countdown to, and it is raising eyebrows, particularly because of Bon Iver and Lil Yachty. The streaming giant usually uses this show to capture artists in intimate, sometimes spontaneous backstage moments, and this one? No one was waiting for it.

Just like every other time, the internet had its own thoughts. Some were mad hyped, like Arturas, who was saying this “is an intriguing collaboration between two very different artists,” and can’t wait to hear about their “creative synergy.” Others, such as stonedp👺, went for the theatrics: “Bon Iver and Lil Yachty? These are the end times, people.” Fair enough, but at least they’re tuning in.
His next words were “Nobody cares.” Ouch. Then Justin Pugliese came in with “This is so exile coded,” which we suppose makes sense in whatever that means. Nessa Vanessa? Too busy simping for Lil Yachty to care about what was actually happening when writing ugh lil yachty so fine, like we weren’t going to see it.
But not everybody agrees. OmgXD threw shade saying “He’s so washed,” although they never specified which “he” they were talking about. And given the vibe of both artists, it could really go either way. David 10X offered some sliver of hope: “an interesting episode,” while Ivy Malise just stated, “This will be a great show!” Confidence is key, people.
Neki 𝕏, on full hype-mode, called the duo “two legends” while predicting the episode to be “a vibe.” Whereas Liv seemed perplexed and tweeted, “what a random collab but okay.” Fair enough.
So what exactly is this episode about, then? Spotify’s Countdown To series, in general, affords insight into the artist’s creative process, influences, and current and upcoming work. Considering putting Bon Iver’s indie-folk melancholy in the same room with Lil Yachty’s trap-infused energy: quite the choice. But then, maybe that means it’ll work. If not, at least it generates a bit of buzz: and when there’s buzz, people will watch.
The real questions will be whether that leads to an actual collab or simply an interview encounter. Until that unfolds, the Internet sits split between hype, confusion, and sheer disbelief. And that’s really the best promo.

So, if you want to know (or just want to see what all the fuss is about), the episode is already live on Spotify. Go judge it for yourself. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you if you end up having some very strong opinions about it later.
