Former UFC champion Henry Cejudo claims he apprehended hit-and-run suspect: ‘Slapped him around!’

Former UFC Bantamweight and Flyweight champion Henry Cejudo played the role of hero on Friday (April 4, 2025) outside of his home in Phoenix, Arizona when a vehicle traveling at a high speed slammed into his neighbor’s house.

According to Cejudo, the driver and passengers attempted to run off afterward. In response, Cejudo and the homeowner chased after the alleged suspects, and Cejudo restrained one of them physically until officers arrived on the scene.

“You can see inside this room, if someone was standing in there, they would be dead. All these kids are lucky to be alive,” Cejudo said in a statement shared with MMA Junkie. “Once they got out I told them, ‘Hey, you guys aren’t going nowhere.’ The owner of this house tried to stop them and said you need to be held accountable. One of them ended up (punching) my neighbor, and that’s when I had to step in.

“Pretty much all my neighbors came in to fight the situation. I ended up lifting him, dropping him, slapped him around a little bit and just pretty much controlled him.”

All told, it sounds like the situation could have been a lot worse. Cejudo mentioned just how lucky it was that nobody was in the room where the car crashed, and the alleged suspects are lucky that “Triple C” was holding himself back. Bantamweight or not, UFC fighters can do serious damage to civilians if they aren’t careful.

As for his career inside the Octagon, Cejudo most recently lost a technical decision to Song Yadong at UFC Seattle amidst great controversy. His next booking is uncertain, but Cejudo recently indicated he may only compete one more time.
