Former UFC champion wears blindfold for special training session — ‘Huge potential’

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Let’s start the night off by taking look back over the three biggest stories of Monday, April 14.

  1. Michael Chandler required immediate medical attention after Pimblett split him open: Chandler has taken a ton of damage in his last few fights, which surely cannot be helping the simple fact that he’s clearly slowing down.
  2. Conor McGregor reacts to losing his $500k Chandler bet: Spoiler alert! The richest athlete in MMA doesn’t care about a bet he may or may not have made with his own money. Oh, and Pimblett is interested in welcoming him back to the Octagon …
  3. Coach John Danaher says Gordon Ryan may be retired for real this time: It’s sad to see illness destroy a young athlete’s illustrious career, but my sympathy is limited given Ryan’s choices and actions.

Insomnia

Jiri Prochazka continues to innovate with his training methods. Perhaps being able to fight blind is a long term strategy for an unlikely timeline where he faces Jon Jones?

Once again: a “BJP” at a real gym with regular training methods might be better, but he wouldn’t be more fun!

Paddy Pimblett is the breakout star of UFC 314. How high can “The Baddy” rise?

Great show of respect between competitors.

Most people don’t realize how bad even the winning fighter’s feet, ankles, and shins hurt after a fight, especially a ripping kicker like Yair Rodriguez.

Movsar Evloev responds to Jean Silva’s title shot request. Evloev has undeniably earned his opportunity, but I can’t help but feel Silva is the more talented fighter. Maybe someday soon we find out?

A much more miniature Jailton Almeida!

It surely costs hundreds of thousands to play catch with Tom Brady, but you can (probably) get a free low kick from any UFC fighter if you happen upon them in the wild.

Song Yadong is ageless. If he’s 27 right now, he’s 13 on the left … How is this possible?

Slips, rips, and KO clips

One of those signature shots that NOBODY wants to take.

It doesn’t get much cleaner.

A heavy check hook and then great shot selection to close the show:

Random Land

Noodling has always been a bucket list item of mine, but a grouper?!? They have real teeth!

Midnight Music: Blues rock, 1978

Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
