Has Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall been booked for months in secret? That’s what interim heavyweight champion Aspinall seems to be implying in a new video clip on his socials.
Aspinall has been interim champ since November 2023, and even defended the interim belt once back in July 2024. Now he’s insisted he won’t fight again until it’s for the undisputed title, currently held by Jon Jones.
That’s Jon Jones, the guy who has repeatedly said he’s not interested in fighting Aspinall. But don’t worry, guys. According to UFC CEO Dana White, the fight is coming. And now Aspinall is teasing the same thing.
“I know everyone wants fight news, but I do know what’s happening,” Aspinall said.. “I have been sworn to secrecy for a little bit, so stay tuned … But there will be news coming. Hopefully very soon.”
We have no doubt that Aspinall knows what the UFC’s plans are — they’ve probably told him a date and maybe even place. But as we’ve learned over the years, the best laid plans of MMA fighters and promoters often go awry. Even with UFC management insisting all is well and Jones will fight, we have serious doubt that they’ve added that extra zero to Jones’ paycheck to make him step back into the cage sooner rather than later.
We’d love to be proved wrong. Prove us wrong, UFC! Announce Jones vs. Aspinall!
