Tony Ferguson still pushing GFL fight with Danis: ‘Let’s dance, buddy!’

Tony Ferguson still believes the GFL will pull things together enough to hold an event where he can fight Dillon Danis.

The Global Fight League was set to hold two back-to-back debut events on May 24th and 25th. But news came out late Wednesday night that those events were cancelled, leaving the 60+ fighters expecting big paychecks in a lurch. GFL head Darren Owen has said he hopes to reschedule for June, but the days where people are giving the promotion the benefit of the doubt feel like they’re over.

Unless you’re Tony Ferguson.

Ferguson was set to fight Dillon Danis in the main event of the Sunday May 25th card. In a recent tweet he sounded convinced that a new date and location would be secured.

“I know s— changed suddenly but that doesn’t mean I stop working towards Mythica Status MFs,” Ferguson wrote. “This fight/season will happen one way or another @mmagfl there’s no way that mooseknuckle Dillon Danis is a better Athlete than me. Let’s Dance Buddy!!! We will prove it once the new location is locked.”

Danis is sounding less optimistic, which is fair considering this is the second major fight of 2025 to vaporize without “El Jefe” getting paid. Dillon was supposed to box KSI on March 29th, only for the Influencer to withdraw with a questionable illness and cancel their entire event. No make-up date has been teased, and KSI teased an end to his whole combat sports career.

“Being real, I’m frustrated as hell,” Danis wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I wanted to stay as active as possible for myself and for everyone who supports me in 2025. First KSI canceled on me, then said he wouldn’t be fit to reschedule. We couldn’t lock in a replacement. I said yes to everyone. And now with the Tony Ferguson fight being moved.”

“I get the criticism. I know what people say about me not fighting,” he added. “I don’t want that to be the narrative, and I’ve been doing everything I can to change it. I just want to back up everything I’ve been saying and prove I’m the best in the world. Sorry, everyone.”

Danis hasn’t fought in MMA since a 2019 win in Bellator, and has only made it into the ring once for a 2023 DQ loss to Logan Paul. The lead-up to that fight got so ugly he’s currently being sued into financial oblivion by Paul’s fiancé. He did get thrown a bone by Misfits Boxing promoter Mams Taylor, who implied they’d make up for the KSI cancellation.

“You’ve sure had some bad luck,” Taylor wrote. “You’re fighting soon Danis.”
