As if there wasn’t already enough bitterness between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn ahead of their middleweight title fight this weekend (Sat., April 26, 2025) inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, more kerosene was splashed on the fire earlier this morning during the official weigh ins.
Indeed, Eubank Jr. — IBO’s current 160-pound champion — failed to make weight for the pivotal bout, costing him a whopping $500,000 via a fine. Ring Magazine issued a statement on the scale fail, highlighting the extra weight-related conditions before he steps into the ring.
“Chris Eubank Jr weighed 160.2 lbs. on his first attempt at today’s official weigh-in for the Conor Benn fight, then weighed 160.05 lbs. on his second and final attempt,” the statement read. “He will be fined $500,000, per the weight clause in the contract, and cannot exceed 170 lbs. at the same-day weigh-in tomorrow morning or he’ll face a further penalty.”
Upon hearing the news of Eubank Jr’s. scale fail, Benn — who made weight at 156 pounds (full results here) — was quick to mock his rival on social media.
“Show me the mother f—king money,” Benn said, with a massive smile on his face.
That’s because the entire $500,000 fine reportedly goes to Benn as per the bout agreement.
And while exact purse details are not fully disclosed at this time, reports suggest Eubank Jr.’s purse is around £10 million. The $500,000 fine (approximately £375,000) represents about 3.75 percent of Eubank Jr.’s rumored £10 million purse. Since Benn receives the entire fine, he effectively gets this 3.75 percent of Eubank Jr.’s purse as additional compensation.
In addition, Eubank Jr. and Benn agreed on a 10-pound rehydration clause, which means neither man can weigh more than 170 pounds tomorrow night.
With the extra bit of beef sprinkled into the already tense bout, fight fans are sure to be in for a treat.
