After Jack Della Maddalena stunned Belal Muhammad to claim the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight title at UFC 315 last night (Sat., May 10, 2025), fans and media eagerly awaited UFC CEO Dana White’s appearance at the post-fight press conference.
Unfortunately, the head honcho didn’t show up.
Instead, Senior VP of International Operations David Shaw took the stage, much to the crowd’s disappointment, as Shaw provided no clarity on the high stakes tied to UFC 315.
On Thursday, during the UFC 315 pre-fight press conference (watch here), White basically confirmed that UFC 317, the massive annual International Fight Week card, will feature Ilia Topuria fighting for the Lightweight title. He added that the outcome of last night’s main event would determine Topuria’s opponent.
With Maddalena now holding the Welterweight crown, speculation points to Islam Makhachev moving up to challenge for “double-champion” status. But where does this leave Topuria? Will he face Charles Oliveira for an interim Lightweight title or a vacant one? Surely, Topuria wouldn’t have vacated his own belt if Makhachev doesn’t do the same, right?
These burning questions demanded answers from the UFC President, who was nowhere to be found.
Tough.
