Dan Hooker may be on the shelf with a busted mitt but that isn’t stopping him from staying involved in the New Zealand combat sports scene.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon in Auckland, Hooker took advantage of his wife and kids being out of town by having 32 amateur fighters come over to his house for a backyard brawl-a-thon. “1 min fights, no weight limit, 32 men, $50,000 winner take all,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The ‘1 Min Scraps’ event was presented by The Doctor — some sort of New Zealand gambling version of Mr. Beast — and was promoted as the ‘Auckland leg of the tournament,’ meaning we could see more of these in the future.
While it’s unclear at this moment who won the $50,000 prize, The Mac Life’s Oscar Willis was there to cover the event / mow the lawn and promised to post the full event sometime next week.
As for the other 31 contestants, they won’t leave empty handed.
“Everyone who fought last night, message me,” Hooker shared on Instagram. “The Doctor is going to give you all $1000 for stepping up.”
Take a look at some of the highlights from Dan Hooker’s ‘1 Min Scraps’ event below.

Check out the wild comeback in this super heavyweight fight.
As for when we might see Dan Hooker again? The stitches are out of his hand following a second surgery, and we don’t doubt he’ll take the first fight offer he can physically accept. We’d love to see that Justin Gaethje fight re-booked.
