Manny Pacquiao ends retirement, lands WBC title fight against Mario Barrios on July 19 in Las Vegas

Manny Pacquiao, one of the greatest boxers of all time, is ending his retirement nearly four years after his last fight. Per a report from ESPN, “Pacman” will face current WBC welterweight champion, Mario Barrios, on July 19, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada on Prime Video PPV.

Pacquiao — the former WBA, WBO and WBO International welterweight champion of the world — was last seen losing to Yordenis Ugas in Aug. 2021 via unanimous decision. Prior to that, however, Pacquiao had won three straight over Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner and Kieth Thurman.

After spending the last four years focused on his political career, serving as a Senator in the Philippines form 2016 to 2022. While he is still active in his career in politics, Pacquiao will attempt to mount a successful comeback at age 46 in the world of boxing against a very dangerous champion.

Barrios owns a 29-2-1 record, bouncing back form back-to-back losses to Gervonta Davis and Kieth Thurman to win three in a row before fighting to a draw in his last bout against Abel Ramos in Nov. 2024. Barrios — the former interim champion — was elevated to full-fledged WBC welterweight champion in May 2024 after Terence Crawford left the division.

Anyone think Pacquiao actually has a shot here? Or has his time passed him by?
