Get ready for some … mixed boxing?
Fight fans are excited for UFC 315 tomorrow night (Sat., May 10, 2025) LIVE on ESPN+ PPV from inside Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; however, after a few wonky rulesets and regulations were discussed on Friday, nobody knows for sure what type of action will actually unfold.
The last time UFC crossed the Canadian border to host an event in Montreal was at UFC 186 back in April 2015, featuring a main event title fight between Demetrious Johnson vs. Kyoji Horiguchi. That was more than a decade ago, so UFC is hoping for a big showing this Saturday night as Belal Muhammad defends his 170-pound title for the first time in the main event opposite Australian contender, Jack Della Maddalena.
Everything appears to be a go with most fighters hitting weight on Friday (official results HERE), but now fight fans are worried about the rules and regulations that could be implemented at UFC 315.
That’s because the MMA community got some mixed signals on Friday that only further cloud what’s legal and what isn’t legal entering Saturday’s fights.
MMA reporter, Aaron Bronsteter, first confirmed that the Quebec athletic commission will utilize the unified rules of MMA for UFC 315. However, he added that foot stomps will not be permitted?
Check it out below:
I’m told that the Quebec athletic commission will be utilizing the unified rules of MMA for UFC 315 with one notable exception… Foot stomps will not be permitted.

“I’m told that the Quebec athletic commission will be utilizing the unified rules of MMA for UFC 315 with one notable exception… Foot stomps will not be permitted.”
Later on Friday, combat sports regulatory lawyer, Erik Magraken, took a deeper dive into the official rules and regulations of MMA in Quebec. Some of the verbiage is pretty wonky and Magraken even reviews documents that lead fans to believe that MMA isn’t even legal in Canada’s largest province.
Things got even crazier when Magraken peeled back the layers of Quebec’s MMA rules.
Check it out below:
“MMA is not legal in Quebec. Instead they legalized ‘mixed boxing.’”
“You can’t kick the knee. If you do it’s treated as a groin strike.”
Magraken posted a full list of fouls as well. One of which states that a fighter cannot strike another fighter with a “bent knee or bent elbow.” Foot stomps, which were previously reported as illegal, are not present on this list.
