In a fight most expected Caleb Plant to win, the now-former interim WBA super middleweight champion failed to put much into his performance against Armando Resendiz, who is leaving Las Vegas, Nevada with a split-decision win.
Early on, Plant was looking great and in control thanks to his jab and body work. But after rounds three and four, Resendiz found another gear and started putting in work against the former champion. In round six, Resendiz even wobbled Plant in the closing seconds.
From there, Resendiz’s confidence only grew further, as he continued to dictate the pace of the fight with his relentless pressure and combinations. Plant tried to push forward, but he simply didn’t have much to offer. In the end, the judges scored it closer than we did, as they award Resendiz a split-decision win to become the new interim king at 168 pounds.
Check out some of the highlights:
The loss is a crushing one for Plant because it ruins any chances of setting up a much-anticipated fight against Jermall Charlo, who had his way with Thomas LaManna in the co-main event of the evening. The two men have a bitter rivalry that will no be put on hold. It’s a senseless risk of taking a fight in the interim instead of booking it straight away,
Something we saw not too long ago.
