What we loved: The hotel’s prime location in Gangnam right beside the Express Bus Terminal offers unbeatable convenience with direct airport connections and subway access, while the spacious Executive Lounge for Bonvoy elite members impresses with its extensive breakfast and evening spreads, and DIY cocktail station. The onsite gender-specific bathhouse and comprehensive sports club facilities provide a great balance for relaxing and staying active during your vacation, while being attached to the Shinsegae department store means endless dining and shopping options at your doorstep.
What we didn’t love: The Gangnam location puts you further from Seoul’s main tourist attractions like Myeongdong and the historic palaces, requiring a bit more travel time for sightseeing. Families should note that children are charged a fee to access the Executive Lounge during evening service hours.
How to book: This hotel participates in the Marriott Bonvoy program and typically requires 60,000–74,000 points per night. Rarely, rates drop under 50,000 points, which makes the use of a 35K free night award possible with a top-up. Cash rates start from around 427,500 KRW per night plus taxes and fees.
If you’re booking a cash rate, be sure to get in touch with our travel agency, Prince Collection, for a quote. This property participates in Marriott Luminous, and we’re able to offer additional perks such as complimentary breakfast, a $100 USD resort credit, and more, all at no additional cost to you.

A major renovation in 2018 refreshed the property with a modern aesthetic, all while preserving its timeless elegance. The result is a contemporary hotel that blends international luxury with the warmth of Korean hospitality. With 379 guest rooms, including 29 suites and 2 exclusive penthouses, the hotel offers ample space and comfort for a wide range of travellers.

Strategically positioned in Gangnam district, the JW Marriott Hotel Seoul offers exceptional connectivity and convenience. Booking
We stayed four nights at the JW Marriott Hotel Seoul with our kids and a few other families in mid-March. While most of our time was spent out exploring the city, it was great to have a comfortable and welcoming place to return to at the start and end of each day.
A standout feature for families is that more than half the rooms feature two double beds, comfortably accommodating up to two adults and two children aged 12 years and under. However, families requiring additional space should note that only a handful of one-bedroom suites offer two double beds, making early booking essential for these more spacious accommodations.
For a memorable experience with the kids, consider booking a Kakao Friends-themed room, thoughtfully outfitted with playful, character-branded amenities, including plush toys the kids will love. For an ultra-luxurious stay, the striking bi-level Ambassador Suite offers standout features such as a private karaoke room and a grand piano, delivering an elevated level of entertainment and indulgence.

A standard award redemption will book into either a Guest Room with one king or two double beds. Cash rates start at ~427,500 KRW and up for such a room.
Booking almost a year out, we redeemed an 85K free night award earned through my US Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card for one night, and then paid a “Cash + Points” rate of 310,000 KRW plus 66,000 points per night for a Bedroom Larger Suite, 2 Double, River view.
At Prince of Travel, we generally value Bonvoy points at 0.8 cents per point (CAD) or 0.6 cents per point (USD), so this would be a great value for your points given the high cash rate.
Consider using the Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card or Marriott Bonvoy® Business American Express®* Card to pay for your stay, as both cards will also earn 5 Bonvoy points per Canadian dollar spent at Marriott hotels.

JW Marriott Hotel Seoul – Check-In Experience
The arrival experience at JW Marriott Hotel Seoul sets the tone for a memorable stay, beginning with professional bellmen who greet guests at the entrance and efficiently handle luggage. Upon entering the grand foyer, guests are immediately drawn to a striking sculptural installation of what resembles a pearl necklace that cascades from the ceiling, creating a dramatic focal point amid the rich dark wooden decor and classy architectural details that speak to the hotel’s premium positioning.

Check-in takes place on the 8th floor, where the bright and welcoming reception area features modern seating arrangements for guest comfort if there is a wait.
During busy periods, Bonvoy members with Platinum status or higher are invited to the Executive Lounge on the 9th floor to complete check-in procedures, allowing guests to be seated at dedicated desks for a more personalized and relaxed experience.

Our room wasn’t immediately ready upon arrival, but we were invited to unwind in the Executive Lounge while waiting.

Check-in staff demonstrated exceptional hospitality and professionalism throughout the check-in process, ensuring we were well-informed about the hotel’s amenities.
As a Titanium member, we received a warm recognition of status and were presented with following elite perks:
- Upgrade: Unfortunately, all higher-level suites were already booked so we were not given any further upgrades.
- Welcome amenity: Since we had complimentary breakfast included with Executive Lounge access, we received 1,000 Bonvoy points.
- Late check-out: The front desk proactively offered this benefit during check-in, though we didn’t utilize it due to our early departure plans.
- Breakfast: This was included with Executive Lounge access.
Once our room was ready, a staff member personally delivered our room keys to us in the Executive Lounge and coordinated with the bellmen for luggage delivery. Our bags arrived within 10 minutes of reaching our room, showcasing the hotel’s efficient service coordination. Not long afterwards, another staff member came by to deliver a welcome gift, consisting of some wine, snacks, and a small cake.
JW Marriott Hotel Seoul – One Bedroom Larger Suite with Two Double Beds, River View
The guest rooms at JW Marriott Hotel Seoul featured a contemporary design, with dark grey colour schemes and wooden accent decor, and were thoughtfully appointed with all essential amenities expected of a luxury property.
Upon entry, guests are welcomed by an elegant foyer with polished stone flooring that creates an impressive first impression. A large console table served as both a sophisticated design element and practical storage solution for day bags and personal items.

The spacious living room area featured a window bench that extended into a comfortable chaise lounge, perfect for relaxing while enjoying city views through the large windows or for catching a show on the TV mounted across. A sleek coffee table provided convenient surface space while the adjacent wooden dinette was ideal for in-room dining or work.
A beverage station with complimentary tea and coffee, along with a mini fridge stocked with beverages for purchase, completes the living room space.

The separate bedroom housed two double beds with premium white linens and an upholstered leather headboard that spanned both beds. Large windows offered great views and brightened the space, while blackout curtains ensured restful sleep.

The bathroom showcased dramatic veined marble throughout, including the vanity countertops and walls. Having a separate soaking tub and glass-enclosed shower was convenient, although the wooden slats in the shower were an interesting design element and guests may have varying preferences for this natural material in wet environments.

In line with Korean government regulations, the hotel no longer provides single-use amenities as part of environmental sustainability efforts. Large bottles of bathroom toiletries are provided but don’t forget to pack a toothbrush and toothpaste.
JW Marriott Hotel Seoul – Food and Drink
The hotel showcases diverse dining options that cater to international tastes. There are three main restaurants and several smaller, more casual venues as well.
Flavors serves as the all-day dining venue, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner with particular acclaim for its evening seafood buffet. This restaurant features live cooking stations representing different Asian cuisines including Korean, Chinese, and Japanese preparations, allowing guests to experience authentic flavors prepared by skilled chefs.

Tamayura elevates the dining experience with authentic Japanese cuisine, offering both omakase and teppanyaki dining experiences that showcase premium ingredients and traditional preparation methods.
Margaux Grill distinguishes itself as Seoul’s premier steakhouse and grill bar, featuring the hotel’s wine cellar and an intimate glass house setting for private dining experiences. MOBO Bar offers a unique modern botanicals concept with both indoor and outdoor terrace spaces, including a distinctive greenhouse setting where guests can enjoy expertly crafted cocktails in a garden-like atmosphere.

The Lounge on the 8th floor provides an elegant lobby bar experience with floor-to-ceiling windows, luxurious furnishings, and a sophisticated ambiance perfect for afternoon tea service or late-night small bites accompanied by premium beverages.
For a special breakfast or afternoon treat, check out the Pâtisserie, which brings French elegance to the hotel with its selection of exquisite pastries, artisanal cakes, and freshly baked breads.
Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and above, as well as guests booking specific room categories, receive complimentary Executive Lounge access including breakfast and evening hors d’oeuvres service. Families should note that children aged 3 and up are charged 50,000–120,000 KRW per child (depending on age) and must leave by 6pm each evening.
Breakfast was served buffet style and consisted of a variety of traditional hot and cold breakfast items, a made-to-order egg station, and also traditional Korean dishes, including a bibimbap station.
Upon entering the lounge for evening hors d’oeuvres, staff members checked in eligible guests and offered a nightly featured cocktail as you arrived or departed. The evening service was equally as extensive as breakfast, featuring salads, soups, desserts, fruit, and a variety of cold and hot dishes, including Korean specialties and a noodle station.

Beyond standard beverages like tea, coffee, soft drinks, and juice, wine and beer are also available. Each evening highlights a do-it-yourself cocktail station with an iPad featuring recipes for select cocktails that change nightly.
Unlike most hotel lounges that offer evening service for only 2 to 3 hours, this property extends it for nearly 5 hours, providing an extended window for socializing and dining. Between breakfast and evening hors d’oeuvres, no formal service is provided, though non-alcoholic beverages, cookies, and mini sandwiches remained available.
If you prefer a more casual and relaxed dining experience, you can order room service or head next door to the Shinsegae shopping centre for numerous options, from burgers to more traditional Korean fare.
