You only get one Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut!
Only one debuted in “Sin City” last night (Sat., May 31, 2025) at UFC Vegas 107 inside the promotion’s private Apex venue in Las Vegas, Nevada, because of a last-minute fight cancellation (details here).

Michael Aswell
Following an electrifying Season 8 Contender Series bout against Bogdan Grad, decided by a split decision, UFC CEO Dana White was so impressed that he placed Michael Aswell on the short list for a UFC call-up. When MarQuel Mederos withdrew from his fight against Bolaji Oki, Aswell received the call to step in.
Aswell dropped a unanimous decision to Oki last night but displayed potential, particularly notable as he competed at Lightweight, up a weight class, on only four days’ notice.
True to form, Aswell applied relentless pressure, stalking Oki through the first two rounds. The Texas native showcased a durable chin, absorbing some powerful strikes from Oki while more than happy to engage in combos in the pocket.
Aswell maintained solid defense until Oki targeted his body in the second round, visibly hurting the UFC newcomer. Despite the punishment, Aswell stayed composed, avoiding a finish.
Ultimately, Aswell’s lack of knockout power left Oki unthreatened. While the fight entertained with its striking exchanges, Aswell might have benefited from utilizing his competent grappling skills.
I will give Aswell credit for showing up on short notice, up a weight class to face a superior, more dangerous opponent.
Final grade: C
