“The Prince” is heartbroken.
No. 4-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight Amir Albazi was set to headline his third consecutive promotional main event this weekend at UFC Vegas 108 against Tatsuro Taira, but on Monday, it was announced he had to withdraw due to medical issues.
Today (Tues., July 29, 2025), Albazi took to social media to reveal what happened.
“I’m heartbroken to announce that I won’t be fighting on August 2nd.
I finished my whole training camp and did everything I could, but I wasn’t medically cleared in time. The UFC and the commission made the call for my safety. I respect their decision even though I wanted to step into that cage and take care of business.
I’ll be back stronger and better. This is just a setback, not the end.
Thank you to my fans, my team, and everyone who supports me through the ups and downs.”
This is a brutal blow for Albazi, who’s no stranger to adversity. The 31-year-old endured a grueling 16-month layoff between 2023 and 2024, battling injuries that included heart surgery and another injury that could have left him paralyzed if untreated. Whether those past struggles played a role in the Nevada Athletic Commission’s decision to pull him from UFC Vegas 108 remains unclear, but the timing stings.
Albazi’s last fight saw his six-fight win streak snapped by former champ Brandon Moreno at UFC Edmonton in 2024, marking his first UFC loss. Now, with this latest setback, “The Prince” faces another uphill climb to reclaim his spot in the Flyweight title picture.
