‘Astro,’ bye! UFC Vegas 109 co-main event just went up in smoke

UFC Vegas 109 is in search of a new co-main event.

That’s because Alex Perez (25-9) has withdrawn from his Steve Erceg fight, scheduled for Sat., Aug. 9, 2025 inside the promotion’s APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. It appears Perez suffered a pre-fight injury and will be unable to recover in time to face “Astro Boy.”

The Fight Analyst first reported the change on Thursday.

Erceg (12-4) is expected to remain on the card against an opponent to be named; however, no word yet on whether or not the promotion will keep the Aussie in the co-headlining slot. The former flyweight title challenger is currently mired in a three-fight losing streak.

UFC Vegas 109 is headlined by Roman Dolidze vs. Anthony Hernandez at middleweight.

Elsewhere on the card, Eryk Anders battles Christian Leroy Duncan at 185 pounds, not long after Angela Hill and Iasmin Lucindo hook ‘em up at strawweight. In addition, Andre Fili returns to throw hands opposite Christian Rodriguez in the featherweight division.
