Bye-bye Borz? Ailing Khamzat ‘gonna retire’ after UFC 319 title win, deal with recurring ‘health problems’

UFC 319 might be the last time we see Khamzat Chimaev compete.

That’s because “Borz” is suffering from too many “health problems” ahead of his Dricus Du Plessis title fight, booked for Sat., Aug. 16, 2025 at United Center in Chicago, Illinois. In addition, the former welterweight is facing mounting pressure from his country and has enough money to live comfortably.

That’s according to the latest gossip from No. 6-ranked contender, Caio Borralho.

“I heard somewhere, some people saying that if he wins the belt, he’s gonna retire,” Borralho told MMA Today. “I think so. There’s some little talks, some whispers about that. If he wins the belt, he retires. I’m not sure of that. I don’t know if I believe that or not, but it’s an option. There’s too much pressure on him. Health problems and a lot of pressure from his country. Maybe he retires, maybe not. He has a lot of money already. A lot of money — he’s good with money. He’ll already be champion, so why not retire? I would do the same.”

Chimaev, 31, previously teased retirement after battling COVID-19 back in early 2021.

Borralho, currently ranked three spots below Chimaev, has a vested interest in the UFC 319 main event. The 32 year-old Brazilian will challenge fellow top contender Nassourdine Imavov in a five-round title eliminator atop the UFC Paris fight card on Sat., Sept. 6, 2025 from inside Accor Arena in Paris, France.
