Gaza: 'War is far-ranging and it needs to stop for those in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel as well'

Following 21 months of a war in Gaza of unprecedented brutality, the destruction and damage of 70 percent of buildings has buried the Palestinian territory under millions of tonnes of debris and plunged it into darkness. The Israeli army has relentlessly pounded the densely populated territory of 365 square kilometres (141 square miles) in retaliation for Hamas’ horrific attack October 2023, which sparked the war and resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people on the Israeli side and nearly 60,000 on the Palestinian side. For in-depth analysis and a deeper perspective on the extreme destruction and humanitarian catastrophe threatening the livelihood of over two million people in war-torn Gaza, FRANCE 24’s Mark Owen is pleased to welcome Canon Mark Madden, Archdiocese of Liverpool. Father Madden carries out the work of the Catholic Church across the Middle East, including Gaza. He is also a close family friend of the Owen family back in Liverpool.
