Uncertainty now grips Venezuela as citizens question who is truly in charge, with Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stepping in as interim president and delivering a defiant speech condemning the U.S. operation, demanding Maduro’s release, and insisting he remains the country’s legitimate leader, even as Trump claimed she held a lengthy conversation with the U.S. Secretary of State in which she allegedly said, “We’ll do whatever you need,” signaling possible cooperation, while at the same time appearing to sideline opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado by saying she lacks the “support or respect” to lead. Emeritus Professor of Political Sciences at American University of Paris, Steven Ekovich, shares his insights.
