Air Canada Adds the Canary Islands and More Winter Sun Destinations

Air Canada is making a serious play for sun-seekers this winter. The airline has announced a batch of new routes for the Winter 2026–27 season, headlined by non-stop flights from Toronto and Montréal to Tenerife in the Canary Islands, the only direct service between North America and the Spanish archipelago.

Beyond Tenerife, Air Canada is adding four entirely new destinations plus a wave of non-stop routes to the Caribbean and Mexico from cities across Canada. Roatán, Santo Domingo, Mérida, and Mazatlán all join the network. Flights are available for purchase now.

Toronto and Montréal to Tenerife

The marquee addition is Tenerife (TFS), the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands. Air Canada will operate the only non-stop flights from North America, with service from both Toronto and Montréal starting in late October 2026.

Toronto gets two weekly departures (Thursdays and Sundays), while Montréal gets one (Saturdays). Here’s the full schedule:

Toronto (YYZ) – Tenerife (TFS) flights:

Flight From To Departs Arrives Days Season
AC954 Toronto (YYZ) Tenerife (TFS) 8:35pm 9:00am+1 Thu, Sun Oct 25, 2026 – Apr 29, 2027
AC955 Tenerife (TFS) Toronto (YYZ) 10:55am 2:50pm Mon, Fri Oct 26, 2026 – Apr 30, 2027

Montréal (YUL) – Tenerife (TFS) flights:

These routes will be operated with Air Canada’s brand-new Airbus A321XLR, an aircraft the airline has been building towards for some time. The A321XLR brings a wide-body experience to a narrow-body jet, with 14 lie-flat Signature Class seats and 168 economy seats.

Air Canada’s brand-new Airbus A321XLR will operate the Tenerife routes with lie-flat Signature Class.

It also marks the debut of Air Canada’s next-generation cabin interiors, with a completely new design standard for the onboard experience. We’ve previously covered the details of the A321XLR’s business class cabin.

For Aeroplan members, Tenerife opens up an interesting new redemption destination. The Canary Islands offer year-round warm weather, volcanic scenery, and a European feel, all reachable non-stop from Canada for the first time.

New Destinations and Non-Stop Routes

Air Canada is also adding four entirely new airports to its network, plus non-stop routes from several Canadian cities to popular sun markets. Vancouver and the Prairies see the biggest gains.

Vancouver’s expansion is particularly notable. The airline is deploying growing A220 and Air Canada Rouge bases to unlock non-stop service to Costa Rica (Liberia) and three Mexican destinations, including Mazatlán as a brand-new destination.

Smaller Canadian cities are getting some love, too. Edmonton and Winnipeg both pick up Montego Bay service, Winnipeg gets Punta Cana, Quebec City adds Guadeloupe, and Halifax gains non-stop Barbados.

Booking These Routes with Aeroplan Points

All of these routes are already bookable with Aeroplan points. Caribbean and Mexico flights tend to price favourably in Aeroplan’s dynamic pricing model, particularly when booked early.

If you’re planning a winter getaway, it’s worth considering Air Canada Vacations, which will offer packages to many of these destinations. The airline has expanded its hotel and cruise offerings for the upcoming season as well.

This announcement builds on Air Canada’s earlier Winter 2026–27 route reveals, which included new service to Quito and expanded routes from Calgary to Mexico. Together, they paint a picture of aggressive network growth into sun markets from coast to coast.

Conclusion

Non-stop service to the Canary Islands from North America doesn’t currently exist, and having it on the A321XLR with lie-flat Signature Class makes Tenerife a legitimate option for premium travellers looking for a warm-weather European getaway.

If you’re based in Edmonton, Winnipeg, Quebec City, or Halifax, the new non-stop Caribbean connections could save you a connection and several hours of travel time this winter. And if you’re on the West Coast, Vancouver’s expanded sun network finally starts to rival what Toronto and Montréal have had for years.
