It’s been a busy year at John Krasinski‘s house. The Office alum is gearing up for the release of Jack Ryan: Ghost War later this month, while his wife Emily Blunt has surpassed all expectations with the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which has made $233 million worldwide in less than a week. Throw in the couple’s two children, and you have the recipe for a successful, but probably very swamped, partnership. Amid all the chaos, Krasinski and Blunt are preparing for yet another much-anticipated return. And this time, they’re going at it together, with Krasinski offering a major update on his highly anticipated horror sequel, A Quiet Place Part III.
A Quiet Place was a triumph at the time of its release in 2018. The real-life couple played a husband and wife struggling to keep their family alive in a post-apocalyptic timeline where sound-sensitive aliens have taken over the Earth. Krasinski directed the film from a screenplay written alongside Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. It was a resounding success, going on to make $341 million at the box office and earning praise for its eerie atmosphere and original storytelling. The film established Krasinski as an A-list filmmaker-to-watch, a far cry from the adorable goof people had come to know on The Office. A second movie, A Quiet Place Part II, also enjoyed positive reviews and a strong box office return in 2020. A spin-off starring Lupita Nyong’o, A Quiet Place: Day One, was released in 2024 to just as much critical and commercial praise.
Now, speaking to Collider, Krasinski revealed that filming for a third movie in the hit horror franchise is just around the corner. “We start filming one week from today, and this is how nervous and stressed out I am,” he said.
The 46-year-old actor added that the coming release of the Jack Ryan film is actually helping to calm his nerves. “So I’m glad to be distracted because, yeah, it’s a lot. We’re so excited,” he said. Rumors for the third film have been swirling about since 2021, when Blunt first revealed that her husband had written a script. The plans were solidified back in August, when it was revealed that Krasinski would return to write, direct and produce the third installment.
In March, plans for the third movie were set in motion with the casting of three stellar new additions in Jack O’Connell (Skins, Sinners), Jason Clarke (Brotherhood, Oppenheimer) and Katy O’Brian (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning). The original cast is also set to return alongside Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, who effectively replaced Krasinski as the male lead following the latter’s heroic sacrifice at the end of the first film.
A Quiet Place Part III will be released on July 30, 2027, and if its predecessors are any indication, the franchise’s return to the big screen will be anything but muted.
