Donald Trump & Elon Musk’s Relationship Gets an Update Amid Feud

Donald Trump and Elon Musk‘s turbulent friendship has received a major update, signaling continued reconciliation efforts following an intense feud. The Tesla CEO has reportedly been invited by the United States president to a state visit to China, marking the US President’s first such visit since 2017.

Notably, Musk and Trump’s feud began following his departure as Senior Advisor from the latter’s second administration. Sparked by the former’s criticism of the Big Beautiful Bill, the conflict involved attacks on social media and public fronts.

US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk reportedly seemed to have made amends. The former has invited the latter to join him on his trip to China, scheduled for May 13-15, 2026. Other business executives attending include outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook and BlackRock’s Larry Fink.

Trump’s visit, which he said he is “very much looking forward to,” on Truth Social, will include a “high-stakes meeting” with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The former is hopeful that this will open up trade deals and purchase agreements with Beijing (via The Mirror). Discussions will likely center on trade, artificial intelligence (AI), Taiwan, and the war in Iran.

Meanwhile, Musk hinted earlier this year that things were amicable between him and Trump. He enjoyed a dinner with the latter and his wife, First Lady Melania, at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. The SpaceX founder shared a photo of this on X (formerly Twitter), along with the caption, “Had a lovely dinner last night with @POTUS and @FLOTUS. 2026 is going to be amazing!”

Three months earlier, Musk attended Trump’s dinner with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman.

Trump and Musk’s feud lasted between June and September 2025. It cooled off by August, with the former telling reporters, while addressing a Gallup poll suggesting Musk was the United States’ most unpopular figure, that the latter “had a bad moment” but was “a good person.”

The next month, at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service, the pair were seen interacting and shaking hands, seemingly confirming their reconciliation. Musk posted a picture of this interaction on X, captioned, “For Charlie.”
