GTA 6’s Official Map Is So Big, Gamers Don’t Know Where To Start

Given it’s been 13 years since the last Grand Theft Auto game came out, I think it’s fair to say fans are expecting GTA 6 to be a hefty experience. Certainly, it’ll be a very long time before we get GTA 7, so the hope is the latest game can keep us hooked and happy for at least the next decade. A tall order, but one Rockstar Games appear to have met.

At the time of writing, GTA 6‘s second trailer is still the “latest” trailer for the game. This was, of course, released almost a year ago, way back in May 2025. But it’s given us a lot to go on. Not least because we’ve had no other choice than to pore over this one trailer. Gamers have obsessed over the second trailer for the better part of a year, and one of the most interesting discoveries is just how big GTA 6 is going to be.

“I want something that isn’t this.”
You’re the retired pro who can’t quite let go of the game. You appreciate the finer things — good scotch, classic films, a well-executed plan — but beneath the polished surface is someone who’s never truly at peace. You overthink everything, your family thinks you’re impossible, and you’re probably in therapy. But when it counts? Nobody plans a job better than you.

“I’m not a hipster. I’m a survivor.”
You’re the unfiltered force of nature that polite society pretends doesn’t exist. Rules bore you, plans are suggestions, and your default setting is “maximum intensity.” People think you’re unhinged — and they’re not entirely wrong — but there’s a twisted honesty to you that the world secretly needs. You’re fiercely loyal to those who earn it, and absolutely terrifying to everyone else.

“I gotta get out the hood, homie.”
You’re the ambitious one who sees the bigger picture while everyone else is stuck in their ways. Street-smart, level-headed, and hungry for more — you’re not about drama, you’re about progress. People underestimate you because you stay quiet, but you’re always three moves ahead. Loyalty runs deep, and you never forget where you came from — you just refuse to stay there.

“The draw distance is INSANE,” one gamer on Reddit pointed out in a post a little while back. “Usually, far away models are reduced to low polygon and no shadows, but here we can see fairly detailed objects, like cars, traffic signs and lamp poles.”

In a separate post, another gamer shared an image of one of the many beaches in Vice City, writing: “Looks like the entire coastline is this busy and detailed. This is going to be insane to walk/drive through.”

Another added: “Incredible. I think this game is going to blow us all away when we land in Vice City.”

GTA 6‘s second trailer also played a key role in the now famous mapping project that fans have been working on since the days of the very first leaks. If you’ve somehow missed this, a group of dedicated fans have been working from trailers, leaks, and screenshots to create their best approximation of the game’s map. In fact, some believe the world of GTA 6 could be more than twice the size of GTA 5‘s Los Santos, which is bananas.

With a world so big, gamers are struggling to work out exactly where they’re going to start exploring first. There’s a story mode to play through, of course, and that will no doubt take us through key locations around Vice City and Leonida, but the beauty of a Grand Theft Auto game is that you can absolutely bail on the plot and go anywhere.

“I like the story to introduce me to new areas,” said one gamer. “With GTA 5 I found so much to check out in the hood while doing some shenanigans.” Excellent use of the word shenanigans.

Another responded: “Would be cool to explore that national park since we haven’t really have a environment like that in a GTA game ever, with deep woods and wilderness.”

“Let the wind take me where it does,” responded one gamer with the soul of a poet.

Where will the wind take you when GTA 6 launches in November? I have no idea where I’m starting, but I do know GTA 6‘s map will be absolutely packed with detail and worth exploring every beautiful inch of. Not long to go now.
