Here in the UK, there are so many beautiful seaside towns to visit, and they’re even more amazing when the sun is shining. However, it’s no secret that holidaying in the UK is sometimes even more expensive than going abroad.

Thankfully, the consumer experts at Which? have done some research on the best and cheapest seaside towns to visit in the UK. And claiming one of the top spots is Stonehaven, a gorgeous fishing town with great beaches and even better food and drink. According to the pros, prices average at around £90 for an overnight stay here in the northeast coast of Scotland.

This picturesque harbour town, located just a short drive south of Aberdeen, offers rich history, sea views and traditional Scottish charm. One of the town’s biggest attractions is Dunnottar Castle, a medieval fortress on top of a rocky headland.

Walking the cliffside path from the town to the castle ruins gives you a panoramic view of the North Sea, while the town’s bustling harbour is the perfect place to sit and watch the boats coming in.

Stonehaven’s beach is also massively popular, boasting a 4.2 out of five star rating on TripAdvisor. One happy reviewer said: “This is such a lovely beach! It has a great promenade from the top of the beach where cafes are right to the harbour. We had fabulous weather dry and sunny so made the views spectacular. Well worth a visit.”

According to the latest seaside town survey that the experts at Which? carried out, Stonehaven is also very popular for its food and drinks scene. It scored five out of five stars for its culinary offerings, and it’s especially great if you’re a fan of seafood.

The Tolbooth Restaurant is a must-visit spot for the freshest fish of the day, or stop at the Marine Hotel for some traditional pub food like fish and chips, steak or beef stew.

If you are looking for something sweet, Aunt Betty’s is the place to be, where you can get a delicious ice cream and enjoy it while walking along the beach. And for the ultimate Scottish treat, you can even visit The Carron Fish Bar, the famous birthplace of the world-renowned deep-fried Mars bar.

Stonehaven’s beach is mostly made of pebbles and shingles, with plenty of rock pools and other geological features to look at. However, if you’re keen to sit somewhere slightly more comfy, you could also visit Stonehaven’s seawater lido.

The Olympic-sized pool is heated and open from late May to September, so you’ll definitely be able to enjoy a swim no matter the weather.

Some of the other cheap seaside towns to visit in the UK include Whitby (£94 per night), Llandudno (£85 per night) and Lytham St Annes (£95 per night).
