‘The Boys’: Daveed Diggs Breaks Down Oh Father’s Misguided Support of Homelander in Season 5 (Exclusive)

What To Know

  • The Boys star Daveed Diggs reveals whether Oh Father’s a true believer when it comes to Homelander’s religious rise.
  • Plus, he reveals his favorite moment from filming Season 5.

The Boys may have only one episode remaining before the series ends its five-season run, but one glowing addition to the mix for this final chapter has been Daveed Diggs as Oh Father. Warning: Spoilers for The Boys Season 5 Episode 7 ahead!

Eager to keep the church a booming business, he’s seemingly bought into selling Homelander (Antony Starr) to the masses as a god-like figure, but does he really have faith in what he’s pushing? As fans saw in the seventh episode, “The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk,” Oh Father had been leading test screenings of some propaganda videos pushing the idea, using psychic supes to read minds and ultimately eliminate anyone who doesn’t buy into this twisted version of reality.

But we couldn’t help but ask Diggs if Oh Father truly believed as well, or if he’s masking his own true feelings about Homelander to protect himself from the psychics. “I think as an overseer of the psychics, he’s not super worried about that,” the actor and singer revealed to TV Insider. “But he’s worried… It definitely got out of hand. He definitely thought he could control the thing that he really had no control over.”

“And so, yeah, I think that in those episodes in particular is when it all starts to crumble for him,” Diggs said of Oh Father. “He’s really caught in having to actually account for faith, I think, for the first time in a very long time.”

Fans will have to tune into the finale to see how Oh Father’s story concludes, but in the meantime, Diggs also shared what he enjoyed most from his time filming when we asked about scenes that would stick with him: “I loved almost every scene I got to do, but I was so happy that I got put on one of The Deep’s [Chace Crawford] podcast episodes because I think that manosphere-like podcast thread is so funny and I was incredibly happy to get to be in there to see all the insane posters on the wall.”

As viewers will recall, the supe with the power of a sonic scream, able to captivate audiences, partook in a podcasting session with The Deep and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), the latter of which blew his cover as the second iteration of the supe by speaking during the recording. “There are so many characters, and everything’s so separate and so… I didn’t know who I was gonna get to interact with and to get to be in that space was really thrilling for me,” Diggs mused.
