A pair of Jasons, both of whom are known for their action thriller prowess, collide in a massive new streaming hit for Prime Video. The two Jasons in question are Bourne and Statham, with the original Amzazon action effort introducing a former assassin called back into action to uncover a major conspiracy involving an elite team of spies.
Likened to a Jason Bourne-esque adventure, but with a hefty dose of no-nonsense Jason Statham-esque explosiveness, the action thriller was released with little fanfare back in March but has since shot up the streaming charts and garnered a huge audience along the way. So huge that it has emerged as one of the biggest hits of the hour on Prime Video.
Spies Are Being Assassinated, and It’s up to the Best Spy to Figure Out Why
Directed by Dani de la Torre, Agent Zeta stars Mario Casas (Bird Box: Barcelona) as the titular resurrected special agent, and picks up after four Spanish ex-intelligence officers are assassinated simultaneously worldwide. The Centro Nacional de Inteligencia, aka the National Intelligence Centre (CNI) discovers all of them participated in the covert “Operation Ciénaga” decades ago in Colombia. Zeta, the CNI’s best operative, is tasked with hunting down and protecting the sole survivor, facing his deadliest global mission yet.
Starring Luis Zahera (Cell 211), Mariela Garriga (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), and Christian Tappan (Primate), alongside Casas, Agent Zeta is now ranked the ninth most-watched original film from Amazon Studios on Prime Video (non-English) alongside the likes of fellow action thriller Vengeance, the Culpa franchise, with the legal drama System at #1.

‘Agent Zeta’ Is Like ‘Jack Ryan,’ ‘The Terminal List’ & James Bond Combined
While Agent Zeta is now an official success for Prime Video, the action thriller has struggled a little with critics. Likened to the streamer’s other action hits such as Jack Ryan, Citadel, and The Terminal List, Agent Zeta has been praised for all the shootouts and explosions on display, but viewers long for something more elevated. “There are solidly executed action sequences, and a clear ambition to launch a Latin-flavored spy franchise,” said one reaction, with another adding, “Prime Video seems to be testing whether Casas can become an Ibero-American Bond or Jack Ryan—and whether this could be the start of something bigger.”
Finally, Agent Zeta was compared to the two action hero Jasons, with another reaction saying, “De la Torre’s film seems to aim for something like the Bourne saga, yet barely reaches the level of a Jason Statham production.” Which, frankly, makes it an absolute must-see.
