Christina Ricci is back in court with her ex-husband, James Heerdegen. The latest dispute centers on allegations involving the former couple’s son, Freddie, and a recent flight to Canada.
The legal filing comes years after the pair’s contentious divorce made headlines. This time, however, the court appears to be focusing on protecting Freddie’s well-being amid the ongoing custody disagreement.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, James Heerdegen requested an emergency hearing after claiming that Freddie contacted him following a June 16 flight with Christina Ricci. Heerdegen alleged that their son reported concerns about Ricci consuming alcohol during the trip.
However, the situation took a turn when Freddie later spoke with his own legal representative. According to documents cited by TMZ, the child reportedly said he had “overreacted” when sending text messages to his father. The filing further stated that Freddie explained, “The description of Ms. Ricci’s alcohol consumption and behavior thereafter was not as he had described.”
Freddie also reportedly told his legal counsel that he had “no fear in continuing to be” in his mother’s custody, according to TMZ. Heerdegen sought court-ordered alcohol testing for the Yellowjackets actress. That request was ultimately denied.
The court also agreed to keep records related to the incident sealed. Freddie’s attorney reportedly argued that “there is a real threat that public access to the statements and records may jeopardize the stability of Freddie’s mental health,” according to court documents cited by TMZ.
The latest filing arrives after years of tension between Ricci and Heerdegen. Ricci filed for divorce in 2020 following a marriage that had become increasingly contentious. At the time, she accused Heerdegen of physical and emotional abuse. Heerdegen later sought a restraining order of his own and alleged that alcohol and substance abuse contributed to Ricci’s behavior.
Their divorce was finalized in 2022.
Since then, Ricci has largely moved forward with her personal life. The actress married hairstylist Mark Hampton and welcomed a daughter. Meanwhile, she continues to share custody of Freddie with Heerdegen.
For now, the court appears unwilling to make changes based on the recent allegations.
