Coming courtesy of Well Go USA, the American independent film distributor that has become known for bringing all manner of international and Asian cinema, particularly in the martial arts, action, and horror genres, to audiences everywhere, Man of War centers on an elite U.S. soldier who faces deeply personal stakes when his adopted daughter, an aid worker, is held hostage by Russian mercenaries amid the invasion of Ukraine. Of course, we all know what he’s going to do next…and it’s going to involve a particular set of skills.
MAN OF WAR stars LaMonica Garrett as an elite American Special Forces veteran. Against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the mission becomes deeply personal when his adopted daughter, an aid worker, is held hostage by Russian mercenaries. Forced to navigate a brutal landscape of fire and betrayal, he must risk everything on this high-stakes hostage rescue.
“The fastest way between two points is a straight line,” LaMonica Garrett’s highly skilled veteran, Connor, says in the trailer. And he’s taking that line straight towards vengeance. Much like Liam Neeson’s Bryan Mills before him, Connor receives a distressed phone call from his adopted daughter, who is taken by nefarious forces. Wasting no time, Connor is on a plane and headed into a war zone, displaying warfare skills that’d make John Rambo proud as he takes down endless bad guys with more bullets than anyone could possibly count.
Lioness, 1883, and The Terminal List star LaMonica Garrett carries the lead of the action thriller with ease, having already proven his affinity for explosions across the small screen. Directed by William Kaufman, whose credits include the action thrillers Sinners and Saints, Shrapnel, The Channel, and the recent sci-fi action outing Osiris starring Terminator icon Linda Hamilton, Man of War stars a solid supporting cast that includes Linds Edwards (Osiris), Andrew Howard (Limitless), Rosmary Yaneva (The Bouncer), Jason Patric (Shrapnel, The Lost Boys), and Daniel Bernhardt (John Wick, Extraction 2) alongside Garrett.
Setting this “Rambo meets Taken” tale during a real-life, ongoing conflict is sure to rightly raise a few eyebrows, but Man of War certainly promises to deliver the no-nonsense action thrills you’re looking for as LaMonica Garrett finally gets the chance to take the lead and no doubt become your new favorite action hero. Man of War is all set to debut on digital streaming on July 3, 2026.
