In an era of movies featuring some of the biggest and most successful musical biopics in recent memory, director Sam Mendes will dive deep into this genre with his vision for one of the biggest bands in history — the Beatles. However, instead of only one movie, Mendes will embrace the massive responsibility of directing four separate movies for a quadrilogy, each movie centered on one of the band’s four members. Titled The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event, the movies are set to be released simultaneously in 2028, but they do not have a specific timeframe confirmed yet.
Leading the cast of these four movies will be Harris Dickinson (Triangle of Sadness) as John Lennon, Paul Mescal (Hamnet) as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) as Ringo Starr. They also have a stellar supporting cast surrounding them, which includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Arthur Darvill as Derek Taylor, and Adam Pally as Allen Klein. Now, as this quartet of movies continues pushing through production, another major name has been added to this already massive roster.
According to Variety, Ben Schwartz has officially joined the cast of The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event. The report confirmed that he will play Murray the K, a famous New York disc jockey whom the Beatles welcomed into their world during their first trip to the United States in the 1960s. Schwartz is best known for his voice-over role as Sonic the Hedgehog in the 2020s live-action movies, and he will reprise that role in 2027’s Sonic the Hedgehog 4. He is also known for his roles in Parks & Recreation, Invincible, and the recently released Mike & Nick & Alice.
While the extent of Schwartz’s screen time in these four movies is still unknown, his character played a major role in the Beatles’ move across the pond in the 1960s. He is sure to get some memorable moments with all four main stars across this quartet of films, which will show four different versions of his interactions with the band as he helps push their popularity to new heights.
As of writing, Schwartz could potentially be working on both this movie and Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which has been filming since March ahead of its release in theaters on Mar. 19, 2027. Even though he plays that movie’s main character, it is all done in the voiceover booth, meaning he will have plenty of time to film his work for this highly anticipated quartet of biopic movies over the next few months.
The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event is currently filming and will debut in theaters on Apr. 7, 2028.
