Wagner Moura Joins ‘Oceans Eleven’ Prequel as Lead Villain

While Warner Bros. is developing Ocean’s 14, which will reunite George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts, the studio is currently fast-tracking a prequel film. Tentatively titled Oceans, the movie will star Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper as the parents of Danny (Clooney) and Debbie (Sandra Bullock) Ocean. Robbie is set to produce the film through her production company, LuckyChap, while Cooper has also signed on to direct.

Academy Award nominee Wagner Moura has been cast in the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While no specific details about Moura’s character have been revealed, he is expected to play the film’s main villain. Oceans is expected to begin filming in France in July and will open in theaters on Jun. 25, 2027.

Moura was recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Secret Agent. Before that, Moura was best known for playing Pablo Escobar on the hit Netflix series Narcos. Moura also voiced Death in the critically acclaimed Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. His most recent work was as the voice of Brander Lawson in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. Moura will next be seen in the drama The Last Day, directed by Rachel Rose, later this year. Also in 2026, Moura will star in Louis Leterrier’s sci-fi thriller The Last House.

Oceans will center on Robbie and Cooper’s characters as they attempt to pull off a heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix. The movie was originally set to reunite Robbie with her Barbie co-star, Ryan Gosling, with Twisters‘ Lee Isaac Chung set to direct. However, in October 2025, Gosling departed the project, and Chung followed in March 2026. Bradley Cooper stepped in to take on the leading male role and to direct the film with Warner Bros. fast-tracking the film as part of their 2027 summer movie slate.

Wagner Moura has previously spoken about turning down big Hollywood productions, including an unnamed DC project. He has spoken about not wanting to accept roles that perpetuate negative Latino stereotypes. So Oceans being able to secure Moura speaks volumes about the movie. He also fits right at home with the previous Ocean‘s movies’ large ensemble cast, which includes Oscar winners George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Sandra Bullock, and Cate Blanchett, as well as Oscar nominees like Helena Bonham Carter, Don Cheadle, and Moura’s upcoming co-stars, Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper.
